Tanaka-Ya — Hotel in Kyoto

Very clean and affordable Ryokan in the heart of Kyoto’s geisha districts. We saw geishas on the streets right outside the inn!

The inn-keeper is extremely pleasant! She was very happy to make a restaurant reservation in Japanese over the phone and had bought us fresh strawberries when we arrived back after a long day of walking to shrines and temples. A very nice human touch that you don’t normally get staying in an inn/hotel.

Tanaka-ya was a nice place to stay while we were in Kyoto. The tatami mat bedroom with futons was comfortable and spacious. The shared bathroom and showers were always clean. Communication with the hostess was easy and she was very kind. The guesthouse is located on a cute, traditional alleyway. The guesthouse has a shared fridge but no shared sitting spaces. It is a 10-15 minute walk to the busiest and most touristy part of Gion. It is close to a metro line and a few bus routes. We would gladly...

Lovely place to stay! Owner is very sweet, easy to communicate with and even sent us some suggestions on what’s happening around the city next day! location is amazing, very close to everything you need, historic district is just 10minute walk away, restaurant district the same and grocery store that’s open 24/7 is 8minutes.
