Nomura Tailor House — Local services in Kyoto

What an excellent fabric/store (for unique souvenirs)! They have hundreds of fabrics cut (1mx0.5m) and on bolts, grouped in themes. At the front of the store, they had ready-made table mats/squares from repurposed silk. Near the back, in the notions area, they had Sashiko sampler packs (incl fabric & thread) with lots of designs. I thought prices were excellent and the staff were great about processing tax/free, if you spend 5500yen. Loved this store! Would recommend to sewers and/or people looking for more...

As someone who started sewing during the pandemic and has bought most of my fabric online, I’m still not super comfortable shopping for fabric in person. But this store was lovely! It’s very charming with lots of fabric, yarn, notions, and even Japanese sewing pattern books. The employees understood English well, and I had no trouble buying yards of a couple different fabrics....

I buy fabrics wherever I travel and love Nomura Tailor for the huge choice and variety. There are also lovely sewing patterns (Japanese’style’) plus lots of habadashery.
