明養軒 — Restaurant in Kyoto

Really cheap, delicious Chinese food. Just around the corner of Fushimi Inari Station, this place is a little hidden gem. The interior is very simple, but the food and the friendly owners make up for it. My recommendations are the Chukadon and the Gyoza. They taste like the perfect mix between Japanese and Chinese flavours. The noodle soups and Mabotofu are great as well. The mapo tofu rice bowl was delicious. Compared to the Korean-style? mapo tofu rice bowls I had in Korea, the flavor was milder and slightly sweeter. Since it’s a place frequented by locals, you may have to share a large table with other people during lunchtime. I’m not used to such experiences in my daily life, so it felt new and refreshing, adding to the sense of being on a trip.

We chose some items off the menu based off of some readable Chinese characters and ended up with an unexpectedly delicious meal!
