Mandarake Grand Chaos Shop — Local services in Osaka

Went to my first Mandarake without really knowing what to expect - going in only knowing that there might be a good selection of Gundam model kits.

That was an understatement! Several floors of high-quality merchandise from all manner of movies, shows, video games and more; rare items for appropriate prices!

If you’re looking for rare or hard-to-find Gundam kits, this is the store for you! Two whole shelves full of both common and incredibly-rare Gunpla from the 80’s to now!

Not to mention that the staff were helpful and kind, the store itself was clean and in a beautiful state of “organized chaos” - everything felt like it was where it needed to be!

I've been to a few doujinshi shops in Japan, mainly Comic Toranoana and Melonbooks, but for some reason, this Mandarake location had this employee who just went above and beyond to help me.

When I show another doujinshi shop employee the book I want, it takes a few minutes for them to input the entry into a computer system and then look around various sections to find it.

The cashier here interpreted my Japanese pronunciation of the artist whose books I wanted to look at effortlessly. Afterwards, he would point me to the exact section of all the artist's works in a matter of seconds.

The man on the 2nd floor is extremely rude. When i kindly ask if i can grab a toy from the glass shelf. He spoke bunch of japanese. And i said” can you please speak in english”, and he immediately changed his face and shouted at me “just a moment please!!!!!”

Shame on you, this kind of japanese created really bad image of japan. No wonder everyone says japan no longer offers good and polite service. If you can speak in japanaese, they kept on bow on you, if u talk international language which they felt embarrassed to talk, they are...
