A deceptively larger-on-the-inside coffee shop located in Nipponbashi but easily walkable from other major areas around. The interior is weathered, earthy, wooden architecture strewn with essential spices and handmade cacao liqueurs, which Kohe, our server, specialises in.
Although we must have come at a down time, Kohe was manning both sides of the shop, preparing food and drinks, all while conversing with us. He had many great suggestions as to where to eat locally around Osaka. He even let us sample a little of the doten don, which was delicious.
We ordered the chai latte, mate tea, the lemon drizzle cake, and the hashed beef curry don.
While mate tea is common here we’ve never had it. It’s a green tea that has a slight minty taste but not very strong. The chai was on point, after all there’s a wall of spices in the shop so it was well balanced and not aggressively sweet.
The curry was some of the best I’ve had in Japan. Freshly simmering before us on the gas stove in a pan maybe 3 decades old at this point. Per their description, they use Wagyu from a local butcher established 140 years ago with Hermes sauce. They slowly simmer the Wagyu with onions to produce a very savoury curry.
The lemon drizzle cake was moist and the crust totally packed with flavours of berries. Total winner.

Read moreThe place was absolutely fantastic, the owner was one of the nicest and friendliest person I have ever seen in Osaka. He speaks very good English and even suggested optional places for us to see in our travels in Osaka. The main star of the place is obviously the coffee and it doesn’t disappoint. His original Arabic coffee blend which is dripped meticulously has a rich and varied aroma. The desserts that compliment your coffee choice aren’t bad either. For us he gave a new cake he was trying the caramel custard cake which was better than all the other ones we ordered. On top of that if you are coming here with an empty stomach Kopimal doesn’t disappoint. It has both lunch and afternoon food options with classic Japanese food such as omurice to more unique beef rice curry mix ( which I tried and absolutely loved). The place it self is super cozy and very welcoming and I recommend to any traveller who visits...
