The staff could not speak English at all. When checking in the first night, there was a girl staff member, with the eyes of a deer in headlights who was not helpful. I had reserved a single room and I was with my mother. Once paying for the room with my credit card, I headed towards the elevator when the staff member started yelling across the lobby. I was confused and she pointed to my mother and frankly said, "No!" and "She. (makes an X with her hands". I know as a visitor it is important to attempt to speak basic Japanese, however if you work in a hotel, I strongly feel that staff should speak basic English to help foreigners. I mean, the hotel is located in a touristy town. That's when I realized the staff member meant to alert to me that I need to pay extra for my mother's stay. I was not notified of this when I reserved the room and I had to pay upfront on the day of my stay. It would have been nice to have seen that on booking.com.||||The last day, I asked where the nearest post office or mail box was and the staff did NOT know what I meant. I eventually went to Family Mart next door and the employee was kind and knowledgable enough to point me in the direction where the mail box was. How can someone who works at a hotel that sees many foreigners each day not speak basic English? ||||Other than those two inconveniences, the hotel is clean. If you do not want your room cleaned, you have to tell them before 10am each day. When the cleaning staff come by, they will hang a bag filled with towels, toothbrushes, and other necessities on your door. If you do this, obviously other visitors will know you are not in your room. So, be cautious if you plan to be away from a while...
Read moreI stayed in this business hotel during a recent family trip. There are few information available for this particular location because it's very new within the chain (not to be confused with nearby Osaka Namba location). This is without doubt the best Toyoko Inn I have stayed. The lobby was bright and airy, with plenty of seats for breakfast. There were very advanced equipments like large screen showing what's inside each elevator, and each room had its own wifi access point (the password is displayed on TV when you turn it on). Very interesting idea.||||Our room was called deluxe twin room which can accommodate up to 4 people. While it was not a large room it's big enough for a Japanese business hotel. If you really have 4 people it may get a little crowded but for 3 it's all fine. Besides standard hotel amenities, the unit also featured huge windows to see the scenery outside. The breakfast was by no means wonderful, but good enough for a free one.||||The hotel is located on the main street of Nihombashi, surrounded by various electronic stores, otaku stores, adult stores etc. There are lots of eateries as well. Kuromon market is also nearby. Namba is about 15 minutes walk if you want to do it. However, from the nearest subway station, Ebisuchō, you will need to change train at least once (or twice) to get almost everywhere. This is a major downside of it. Otherwise it's almost perfect...
Read morefirst time staying at 東横. think ill switch my future stays here and say goodbye to A*A😉. bigger room per Japanese standard, no frill minimalist style decor. super clean, I can sleep well at night.
no amenities in room, but you can get it from the lobby, I personally love the GREEN concept including not changing your bedding in the first three nights. they do provide housekeeping if you need it but otherwise, they will give you fresh towels in a bag hanging on your door.
the highlight is the free breakfast. amazing selections change every day. very tasty and fresh. thanks to all the hardworking ladies in the kichen. I eat more breakfast more than ever during my stay and feel full till way pass lunch time🤣.
the chekin was smooth as the staff do speak enough English to complete the process. get a membership card if you like, I do this with every chain business hotels in Japan as I come here very often. the fee is really minimum compare what you can save booking directly on their website.
