I don't usually leave negative reviews for businesses, especially after just one experience. But I feel it's important to share my experience here in case non-Japanese speakers are considering this salon. If you don't speak Japanese well, it's best to avoid coming here. Besides the regular costs, you'll be charged an additional 20% for not being able to speak Japanese and the risk of miscommunication isn't worth it.
Honestly, I don't know how my hair turned out like this. I don't know if it was miscommunication or something else. I tried my best to be prepared by bringing photos, using the minimal Japanese I do know, using a translator app, and choosing someone who was specifically experienced with Korean haircuts.
The haircut I ended up getting felt a little bit like a joke. The layers were unevenly and bluntly cut. It's nothing like I've ever had before.
I went back, and to their credit, they did fix it. I'm including videos of how it looks after they fixed it, as well as a video of how it looked after the first haircut. Also to their credit, they were patient through the process of fixing it and spent a long time cutting my hair little by little (I think because they could see how upset I was about my first haircut). The fixed haircut seemed fine.
A few days later, I noticed my bangs were unevenly cut, which was confirmed by a different salon. There were other things that felt "off" about my hair, so I decided to go to a different salon, where I finally got a haircut that I'm really happy with.
The contrasting experiences at both salons actually make me wonder if AFLOAT even took me seriously as a customer to begin with.
I originally wrote this review with 1 star, but considering the language barrier and how long they spent trying to amend the situation, maybe that's a bit harsh. I just felt like 2 stars didn't reflect my initial shock and humiliation I felt after my first haircut here. I had really high expectations from this salon because of their reviews and their social media posts. So, I was really disappointed by my experience. The staff were nice, the facilities are nice. If you're a fluent Japanese speaker, your experience will probably be better than mine. If you aren't, be warned. It's probably not worth the hassle, for you...
