5-Star Gem in Puerto Vallarta!

If you’re looking for authentic, fresh, and insanely delicious Mexican food in a vibrant atmosphere, Olas Altas is the spot! From the moment we arrived, the energy was electric—packed with happy diners and a line out the door (totally worth the wait!).

Flawless & Fun Service: The staff made our night! Attentive, hilarious, and full of great recommendations. They treated us like family while keeping the margaritas flowing.

Food Heaven: Every bite was a fiesta! We devoured the al pastor tacos (juicy and perfectly spiced), the prime rib alambres (smoky, cheesy perfection), and the huaraches (crispy yet tender). Even the salsas were next-level fresh. And yes, the baked pastor potato is as legendary as the reviews say!

Spotless & Stylish: The restaurant is beautifully designed—think rustic charm meets beachy vibes. Even the washrooms were immaculate, which says a lot about a busy place!

Pro Tip: Come early or embrace the line—it’s a local and tourist favorite for a reason. Olas Altas isn’t just a meal; it’s an experience. Can’t wait to return!

We arrived at18:30 and waited 5 minutes. We were lucky to get a beautiful table for 6 people in front of...

I ate here several times. I will start by saying they serve the best Pastor I have ever had in my life. They are also fairly generous with the amount of meat on thier tacos. My first visit was awesome. Any disappointment comes from my 2nd visit. On my first visit I saw they offered Cheesecake I love Cheesecake but was too full. I was already planning on Cheesecake for my 2nd visit. What wasn't disclosed is it is frozen. It isn't a true Cheesecake although the passion fruit Cheesecake sounds interesting it is really more of an ice cream type desert product it isn't baked and as it thaws becomes very soft it doesn't stay firm like actual Cheesecake so more simular to key lime gelato. That was disappointing. Also to get my change took a very long time almost as if the server thought I would give up and leave without it. I tip well but not double what the meal was. Anyhow the main food was good skip on desert and I guess the server you get is up to luck. But definitely worth going and having...

This place was out of bounds delicious. We were planning on going to Panchos(like we usually do). But they were closed. And yes Panchos is awesome. But this place was every bit as good(maybe better) and has a much larger area to dine.. so we literally got in within a few minutes even though there was a big line. Al Pastor tacos are perfection!! They WAY undersold the size of the plate. 6 tacos come with the order and it was absolutely stuffed with meat! Perfectly cooked and like I said.. rivals Panchos in every way. They had all the salsas you could ask for as well. And one more thing.. WAY cleaner than Panchos. And you don’t have to sit there with 50 ppl watching you making sure you’re eating dinner fast enough so they can get in. Margaritas were super good too. We also got the Volcano tacos with Flank steak and Queso Fundido with Al Pastor.. so good. All in all.. we come to PV once per year. We will be back here every time. Matter of fact we’re heading there...

I don't get the hype about this place. Food is "meh" at best and the taco trucks a couple of blocks away seem far better. Ordered Huaraches. The first picture is what's in the menu. The second picture is what came to the table. When asked where the sauces and fixings were and we were told to put it on ourselves. What? We were given a bowl of onions, cilantro and 5 different sauces (3 we're insanely spicy) and we're supposed to make the thing ourselves? Same with chicken tacos. Three tacos covered in chicken and nothing else. We're to make it ourselves. Volcanoes, same thing. Ordered prime rib volcane and just a bunch of meat on a hard taco. Can't even see any cheese. The only thing looking like a taco was the Al Pastor which may be their speciality. Came with onions, cilantro, sauce and pineapple. Can't understand why one taco is this way and others are not.

So good we came back again! Cash only. Al pastor tacos were excellent but also enjoyed the steak version too (comes with part of the bone in cut on top… juicy tender flavorful). Guacamole was good. Paloma was so so but cheap. Grilled Baby onions were really good. Really cute space, nicely done. Tons of fans. Panchos was always packed around the corner but honestly here the tacos looked better and I can’t compare taste but these were fantastic. Skip the line and come here. We actually discovered this place because we came to the same location for breakfast except during breakfast hours it’s called chilaqueria and we saw the trompo at the entrance and asked the waitress about it and she told us about the restaurant it turns into at night and showed us the menu. Love it

We recently visited Tacos Sonorita Olas Altas in Puerto Vallarta, and the al pastor tacos were phenomenal! The pork was perfectly marinated and cooked on the trompo, giving it that authentic, smoky flavor that melts in your mouth. The pineapple topping added just the right amount of sweetness to balance the savory spices. The tortillas were fresh, warm, and soft—perfectly holding the juicy meat and fresh toppings together. Each bite was bursting with flavor, and the house-made salsas took everything to the next level. If you’re looking for some of the best al pastor tacos in Puerto Vallarta, this is the place to go. Great food, friendly service, and a cozy vibe right in the heart of the Romantic Zone. Highly recommend!” Instagram: eatwithjarco
