I came to Skinography desperate after watching a Facebook Live event with Kate (hosted by BePure) that really resonated with me as I had been having hellish skin issues recently and was able to book in the next day for a consultation with Kate. The salon itself is gorgeous as you would expect of Ponsonby, and you are greeted with a nice herbal tea whilst you wait. Prior to the appointment (or at, in my case of a last minute booking), you complete a questionnaire on your skin health.
Once in the room, Kate discussed the info from the questionnaire, the gut, how skin issues can present, gave me a massage and used her skin products on me. She then sold me a few of her skincare products and some supplements.
A few concerns/issues arose from my appointment: One of the supplements clearly states that they should be taken for 3 days only, yet I was advised to take them daily. After a few days on the mixture of supplements I experienced a severe allergic reaction. I have been seeing a registered holistic nutritionist so thought I would run this by her - she commented on the quality of these & that the suggested dose should not be exceeded; my GP advised against taking the supplements at the same time (as suggested) as a lot of the vitamins are repeated. Not meaning to offend but I wondered to myself why I took medical consumable advice from someone who's area of expertise is skin care products. It was a pretty bad reaction that left me looking like a blowfish. It's one thing recommending a supplement but a concoction of them, and to recommend against the stated instructions, maybe not.
I was also promised some sort of plan on how to use the products etc. (which was supposed to take a couple of days as she was busy) but alas it's been 6 weeks since my appointment. I have emailed and sent a Facebook message, yet all I have received is a reminder text to book in for my next appointment. That shan't be happening.
Over the space of that hour, the appointment, 4 supplements and 3 skincare products cost over $1000 and I left the appointment feeling as though Skinography/Kate had oversold themselves. It's basically a fancy facial with a few holistic buzzwords thrown at you.
Kate is lovely, the salon is too but for a fraction of the amount spent, I would probably recommend seeing a dermatologist with an interest in natural therapy if you have skincare issues more than your amount seen by a...
Read moreThe place is gorgeous, great location for me, the staff are super friendly, though i made the mistake of booking a massage instead of a facial, which really is not their expertise. I got an advertisement for their massages so thought that was somewhat of their specialty, though seems more like an added service they offer and don't focus on at all.
The massage unfortunately was 1 star, someone really not knowing what they were doing, moving oil for an hour. The massage was not full body, in their defense, im not entirely sure what kind of massage i booked (maybe it was suppose to be back only?) but thats rather unusual, so there really should be more consultation so we both are on the same page as it didn't more far from the back for the entire hour.
Re Pressure: I actually prefer a softer massage than the average person. Having worked in Spa's and every massage i've ever had, find myself saying less pressure. In this case the opposite, I had ofcourse said i would need more pressure, but the 'increased pressure' was not noticeable at all that i didn't think they were actually capable of delivering anything close so felt it pointless to coach them through it. so yes, she moved oil around for an hour lol.
Definitely need more training if they are going to offer this service at their price.
i hear the facials are quite good! so perhaps i booked the wrong service. i loved the vibe of the products they had.

Read moreToday I was deeply touched. Literally and metaphorically speaking .
Today I was in hands of Kate who welcomed me into her dreamy beauty space skinography and indulged me with a delicious intuitive facial that was a meditative cleanse followed by face massage, masks full of nutrients that my skin needed. Kate said “my skin was thirsty, so we hydrated it to the max.” Well not only my skin was thirsty but also my soul that was craving an experience like that.
I was moved by Kate’s personalised approach and care for my skin needs and conditions. But as a woman and business owner who cares about the customer service and every step of the way, I also salute to Kate’s style and an attention to detail in making her beauty space so special, so it feels like home.
Every room has a sense of warmth, comfort and everyday luxury that we can all access if we slow down and pay attention. Every object had a reason to be there. Every detail was speaking to me. I was deeply moved and felt like touching every object that spoke to me.
Skinography isn’t just a facial or face massage you receive. Skinography isn’t just a place to pamper yourself. It is a true safe haven and place to ground your spirit, rest your mind, and indulge yourself in a multi-sensory self care experience that YOU deserve.
And yes it’s not a paid advertsiting or anything, I am here to celebrate Cool business and support those who inspire me. So keep an eye on my IG reels as I am sharing only the...
