Verona Cafe & Bar — Restaurant in Waitematā

I don't get out to the city much so my daughter took me to Verona for breakfast and coffee on Sunday which was a big treat for me, and we both were very impressed from start to finish. What a warm and inviting place, great music and interesting decor. I had the eggs bene which was delicious and beautifully presented, cooked exactly to my liking, on a beautiful homemade rye so hats off to the chef 10/10, and the customer service! From the moment we entered to the moment we left Cedric made us feel welcome by being warm, friendly and attentive and he went the extra mile by pointing out the bus routes so we could get to the zoo later. He also makes the best coffee I've had in years and i'm fussy about my coffee. Verona sets the standard in terms of customer service. hospitality done right! Arrived and there was no acknowledgement, greeting, or offer of drinks while we browsed the menu. I approached the counter then ordered and paid for 3 drinks - we'll come back to that later. We waited for 30+ mins for a bagel, mince on toast, and a fry up in a nearly empty cafe. Had to ask for the bagel come out earlier as my friend needed to return to work. Food was pretty good with generous portions, but one egg was undercooked (still clear whites). When it came to the bill, my friend was re-charged for the drink I'd shouted her, and I was charged for my two other coffees again. Came here for a decent cup of tea & a toilet stop after staff at the paperback princess told me how good it was. Am greatful for the toilet stop. But when asking for a tea & trim millk the guy should have advised me they don't have trim milk.when he brought it over to me I asked if it was trim milk. He said yeah. On pouring it into my cup I could see it wasn't trim milk. I went & asked for some & the other guy who was there said we don't have trim milk it has too much sugar in it.

So if I actually knew that I would have walked out without buying. As it happens I did walk out with my biscuit. But I wasn't offered a refund gor the pot of tea I never drank.
