I booked a stay for me and my partner at Vr Queen street and the stay was terrible from the start and felt that i just had to share our experience and disgust at the way the hotel was operated this weekend . First off i called ahead before making a booking for a room and requested a big room that was listed on booking.com and was advised that the room is the deluxe king room after explaining what i wanted and making sure reception knows exactly what room i was after and confirming twice over the phone that what i wanted was indeed as reception advised the deluxe king room i was thoroughly surprised when we came into the room and saw that it was not the room we wanted thus we were given the wrong information ( and it would have been fine if i didnt confirm a few times over the phone for rhe correct room selection ). Secondly when we arrived at the hotel around 18:30 (also confirmed check our check in time woukd be ok over the phone ) we were quite surprised that we had to stand outside the front door for about 20 minutes in the cold weather because no one was at reception and the door as you know operates with swipe card ( we werent the only ones waiting aswell ) . Thirdly and this was quite sickening the room carpet and table was dirty with previous guests trash sticking out from under the bed and visible dust on the table . Fourthly if guests make an effort in the morning to ask reception for housekeeping services then one would expect it to be done not in our case we switched the please make up room sign on and went down(around 09:15 saturday morning) and asked reception for housekeeping and extra toiletries which we were then told that it would be done between 12:00 and 13:00 so we then proceeded to explore auckland till 14:00 much to our surprise when we got to our room nothing was done and still no toiletries we then proceeded to ask reception again and they got in contact with housekeeping then told us housekeeping will be there anytime between half an hour to an hour so 15: 00 came and gone 16:00 came and gone and at 16:30 housekeeping finally came so their half an hour to an hour actually took another 2 and a half hours and only one body wash and shampoo so the extra toiletries we asked for was not even placed in the bathroom. As a 3 star hotel i expected much more and not to mention as a hospitality business cleanliness is a must . We are very angry the fact that it is not cheap and had to save up for the weekend for our aniversary and this is what we got it saddens me to think and lost all faith and respect for Vr Hotels . Thank you for reading this and hope changes can be made especially the cleaning ( especially in the covid times we find...
Read moreTERRIBLE EXPERIENCE.
Firstly, Upon arrival we were welcomed with the most rudest service from the tall skinny fair skinned lady on the reception who was very arrogant & stubborn towards us. During the checking in process we had just travelled to Auckland & we’re busting for the restrooms.. as we discussed some card details between ourselves, this lady rudely interrupted claiming “you book with booking.com that has nothing to do with me. Now you need to give me a credit card & ID before I can give you access.” I answered her with “yes I know that. We are aware of that. (Handing her the details required) we recieved very discomforting eye rolls & facials that speak more.
Secondly, once entering room there were no windows to open & the air con was not working display screen “filter needs to be fixed” being a VERY SUNNY DAY this became so inconvenient. We then ask the reception lady if we could please swap rooms as at this point it was becoming difficult for me to breath in the room. Her reply “No we don’t have anything else” At this stage we were made to leave the hotel until it had cooled down because it was just too hot & difficult to keep breathe. Once returning to hotel, we’d asked the lady if we could please have a fan or something to help her reply “come back in half an hour another person will be here to deal with it” RUDE. We then had to find something to do & leave the hotel again at 8-9pm to get fresh air, at this stage another lad was on counter & considered the struggle breathing, provided us with a fan which made a huge difference & helped a lot so thank you for that.
Thirdly, whilst showering the floor was being flooded & sweeping towards the carpet due to everything coming back up the drain next to shower cubic. This was a nuisance as we then had to use our shower towels to wipe it up leaving us with no more. Must I mention, we had requested extra towels on booking however none on arrival.
Fourthly, our freezer had defrosted our ice blocks that we had hoped to use for cooling us down & helping me breath properly.. We were unable to use the oven as it had all the knobs missing.
Also, no trolley cart or anything to help carry luggage to or from vehicle. Parking $35 per night at the hotel, tight squeeze. Wilsons parking across the road $8-12hours
WILL NOT BE RETURNING TO THIS...
Read moreFantastic value for money. Great rooms and lovely staff. The location is perfect if you are visiting Auckland.
The rooms come with cutlery, toaster, tea making facilities, dishwasher, oven, stove top and all necessary accessories. We were in the king suite which has massive bathrooms with a fold down seat, complimentary toiletries, and staff readily replaced all used towels. The bed and bedding were all what you would expect from any good quality hotel. The rooms are surprisingly quiet given that a busy main street is right beside you (we were on the second floor). As per previous reviews the windows do not open, but the internal temperature control unit meant that wasn't an issue - it was however a bit noisy, if you are a light sleeper you can switch it to "dry" setting and the noises are minimal.
Staff were friendly and very accomodating. We witnessed them dealing with some more difficult guests and they were very patient and managed the situation with a smile. We are breakfast at the hotel once and it was affordable and exactly what we needed before a big day walking around the city.
There is parking at $35 a day which seems a bit steep - but it was reassuring to have our car close by and in a closed off parking lot that isn't accessible to the public. Wifi works perfectly fine, we had no issues with this or our TV (though it does seem to be missing some freeview channels).
I genuinely think the other reviews are too harsh. If you're looking for perfection you might want to consider forking out the big bucks for the local Hilton. If you're looking for reasonably priced, comfortable accomodation right on the edge of the city then VR...
