Virgin Active Gym Melrose Arch — Local services in Gauteng

I wanted to say that after visiting Alice Lane, I was quite disappointed by such horrible service they provide at the upper-level Virgin Gym. Because of that, I hesitated whether I even wanted to go and check out Melrose Arch. But it turned out to be so much better!

I wanted to say a big thank you to Precious and her colleague (unfortunately, I don’t remember her name). These girls are truly giving 100 percent — especially in contrast with Alice Lane, where the receptionists are so rude and unprofessional, and the management is very poor.

These girls explained everything to me, gave me all the price plans, have shown every corner of a gym and booked a reformer class for me (where I wasn’t very happy with the trainer, but I was mostly looking for a heated pool and sauna, since I already have a good gym at my residence, but our pool is cold.)

At Melrose Arch, they have a proper recreation area in the sauna zone: chaise-longues to lie down, a jacuzzi, and they promised an ice bath, which I’m going to check out soon, if it’s already there.

All that is, unfortunately, rare for South Africa, so this (the only?) gym is for those who are used to such facilities in their home countries. And thanks to the nice girls, nothing stops me from coming back. (But Alice Lane —...

For a ‘premium’ club, Virgin Active Collection showed premium silence when I reported harassment by a male gym member.

I cancelled my membership after feeling unsafe when a male member repeatedly approached me despite my clear disinterest. I reported the incident to management, but after filing the incident report, no one followed up even though I missed their call due to my work (I'm not available in the day due to my busy hours) - I thought they could've followed up with an email, SMS or WhatsApp.

For a premium club that markets itself on professionalism and exclusivity, I expected stronger protocols to protect members’ safety and privacy - especially women who train alone. I hope the club reviews its handling of harassment complaints and ensures members aren’t left feeling unheard after experiencing something distressing.

Women should know that this club’s luxury setting doesn’t guarantee respectful behaviour and some of the older men have wandering eyes and can be very entitled because they think...

The things l enjoy about this collection club is its beautiful layout, reasonable amount of machines/ equipment for every member ( you don’t have to wait for someone to get done often) , fruits on the house, getting my clothes ironed, the jacuzzi, sauna room, steam room, the pool, and towel service!!

What l hate about this gym is that; • The reception ladies ( yes, all of them) are not welcoming, the attitude is terrible, it was so bad l had to leave the gym and go to another collection club! If ever you need any help or assistance ask for Amo, she’s probably the only person in that gym who comes to work with professionalism in mind.
