Their extensive knowledge of Turkish cuisine was impressive, as they patiently explained each dish and even offered recommendations based on my preferences. The attentive and friendly service truly enhanced my dining experience.
Culinary Delights: The star of the show at Istanbul Kebab was undoubtedly the food. Every dish I tried showcased the authentic flavors and culinary finesse of Turkish cuisine. The menu was extensive, offering a wide range of traditional Turkish dishes, including kebabs, mezes, and sumptuous desserts.
I started with the mezze platter, a delightful assortment of small plates that included classics such as hummus, baba ganoush, and stuffed grape leaves. The freshness of the ingredients and the harmonious blend of flavors were a testament to the chef's skill. The lamb shish kebab that followed was a revelation. The tender and succulent meat, marinated to perfection and grilled to smoky perfection, was a true delight for meat lovers.
Another standout dish was the traditional Turkish pide, a boat-shaped bread topped with a variety of ingredients. The thin and crispy crust, combined with flavorful toppings such as cheese, minced lamb, and fresh vegetables, created a mouthwatering symphony of tastes.
Istanbul Kebab's dessert offerings were equally impressive. The baklava, with its flaky layers of pastry filled with nuts and drenched in sweet syrup, was an absolute treat. The creamy and velvety texture of the Turkish delight provided the perfect ending to my culinary journey.

Owned by the remarkable Burhan, whose journey I have been following since the beginning, this restaurant truly stands out as the best Turkish dining destination in the Joburg area.
From the moment I walked through the doors, I was greeted with warm hospitality and a vibrant atmosphere that transported me straight to the heart of Istanbul. The restaurant's decor, with its intricate Turkish patterns and beautiful artwork, created an inviting ambiance that added to the overall charm of the place.
Now, let's talk about the food. I had the pleasure of indulging in their renowned mix platter, which was a feast for both the eyes and the taste buds. It showcased a delightful selection of traditional Turkish delicacies, each bursting with authentic flavors and prepared with utmost care. The pide's, with their perfectly baked dough and flavorful toppings, were a true delight.
However, the highlight of my meal was the beef doner. The succulent and tender meat, expertly seasoned and roasted to perfection, was a true testament to Burhan's dedication to his craft. Each bite was a heavenly experience, leaving me craving for more.
But the real star of the show was the baklava. Trust me when I say that you simply cannot leave Istanbul Kebab Melrose Arch without trying their baklava. It was unlike anything I had ever tasted before. The delicate layers of filo pastry, generously filled with a sweet and nutty mixture, were pure bliss. And if you're feeling adventurous, I highly recommend trying the cold baklava. Its unique twist on this classic dessert will leave you speechless and longing for more.
Aside from the incredible food, I was thoroughly impressed by Burhan's dedication and hard work. It's evident that he pours his heart and soul into every dish that comes out of his kitchen. Read moreCatching up with my friends is always the best way to pass the time. And when there is good food involved it's a win win.
This time out, we picked the recently opened Istanbul kebab at Melrose Arch.
It has taken over from where Moyo was situated on High street next to the Ocean Basket.
It's crazy busy but luckily we managed to get a table and Beatrice was assisting during the evening. They do not serve alcohol here as it's a strictly halaal restaurant just in case you didn't know. So I always start my meals with a divine cup of Apple Tea.
The menu is the same as the other branches, so of course I had to stick with my platter for 1 (Char-grilled served pcs chicken chops,2 pcs lamb chops, 2 pcs lamb kofta and beef doner). Although I was craving the Adana kebab (the spicy one) I just asked that they make my chicken etc spicy on my platter as it's not part of it, and also they brought us their house Mild and Hot sauces to the table.
My friends had the Spicy Wing Kebabs and the Mixed Pide and Falafels. Everything was fantastic, the portions sizes are ridiculously big, and it's definitely value for money. Ingredients are fresh and the food has flavour in it. It always comes with a variety of Salads and side dips and Flatbread.
My friend had the Turkish coffee and it's always presented in these gorgeous containers. Just love it.
Although stuffed, we shared the Kunefe as we wanted something slightly sweet. Unfortunately this was the only let down for me. It wasn't as cheesy, it was more pastry on the edges as well as burnt and too much syrup. You can see from the picture the cheese looked like it was only in the middle. The sunninghill branch makes a much better one. However my friends enjoyed this one, which I didn't.
A great night out, a bit of rain to freshen the air and lots of chatting all over...
Only thing with a restaurant this size was hoping they would also sell the frozen goods but unfortunately...
