The Capital Melrose — Hotel in Gauteng

We stayed here for a night over the Christmas period. I was really impressed by the communication before the stay and after. The staff were super friendly. For us it was really just a place to stay for one night however we were told we got an upgrade but it was the room above reception. The walls are not sound proof so we could hear everything. Also the door is damaged so doesn’t fully open so hard to get suitcases in the room.

The biggest thing for me about travelling to South Africa was safety and it is in a safe area of Joburg but it’s not within the Melrose arch direct area as you have to Uber there (1 minute away) but we were advised not to walk and to Uber. But the thing I wanted to mention as a female is that I was woken at 3am to the screaming and yelling of people in a fight. I went to the door and the peep hole is for the height of a male. I am 170cm tall and I could not reach the peep hole. If I was by myself I would have been more on edge.

I think the hotel is good value for money but for me because of the things I have mentioned above I wouldn’t stay...

My stay has not ended yet. Lovely modern facility. The staff attitude is cold, abrasive and dismissive - besides the maintenance gentleman and one of the security officers. I find the staff not service orientated and behave like robots. It’s better not to engage them and rather use the WhatsApp link for FAQs.

I can’t wait to get back home, as I don’t feel at home here despite the lovely facility and great location. Used to live in the area so at least I am familiar with area and atmosphere. Room is splendid. Wouldn’t try the food here, Melrose Arch is opposite and Tasha’s is always great

I may return monthly - for the modern facility and great location - as I have business up here, but will book everything online and ensure I am invisible as service is unfortunately awful, terrible and sickening

I was not impressed with the staff, sorry to say. Was attending a one day workshop, arrived 40 min late as there was an accident on the highway - only tea and coffee made available, i asked for a Coke and was told no, you can only get Soda at lunch time. Two immediate problems for me :: well then give me mine now and i wont have at lunch time? I mean that is always an option right. I then offered to buy a Coke - no no, that's not necessary ...well then what be the problem mister?? Even asked where is the nearest store so i could walk and go buy - like is this place even for real? The food was sub standard, presentation 100 percent but lacking in taste. If you don't drink tea or coffee, sorry for you, you leave with nothing. To fair there was bottled water...
