Review of Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! Cape T

This was our second stay at the Protea Hotel Fire and Ice Cape Town. We stayed in the 2 bedroom loft apartments. I specifically requested that crockery in the unit be minimum for 5 guests of my family (husband, self and 3 kids). There was a shortage of crockery and phoned to room service to correct which they duly did. After housekeeping would leave the following day we were left with the shortage of glasses etc once again and so this continued the whole weekend. We were not happy with housekeeping as we were out for most of the afternoon and on return found that they had not even vacuumed the floor as there were crumbs and the toilet had not been cleaned. The loft apartments have a desk which was useful when working on my laptop. Lounge and diningroom are open planned with double volume windows. There is a bedroom downstairs with en-suite in the bedroom and a second bedroom upstairs with a shower etc. The loft has a Saecco coffee machine which I liked so much that I went out and bought myself one while in Cape Town. The fridge was big enough to handle our snacks and there is also a microwave with limited crockery and cutlery. We ate dinner at the restaurant which was mediocre. We arrived when Cape Town was hosting the Jazz Festival and it felt like the whole of Cape Town was staying at the hotel. Breakfast was chaos as when we arrived there were no tables available so we waited for a table to become available which took about 20 minutes. No sooner had we started dishing up and the staff was starting to carry away the food. I did complain to a lady manager on duty and she promised that it would not happen again but it did the whole weekend that we stayed there. Service at the bar was a tad slow also. They did not have any ProKids packs available. The best part that I liked about my stay was the comfortable beds but not the pillows. Do not know why they do not invest in feather/duck pillows. My stay at the Protea Fire and ice Marriot was great. First time in Johannesburg quick stop , quick stay for my birthday vacation for going to Cape Town . I enjoyed the welcoming of the staff upon my arrival. The customer service the decor was good . The rooms are beautiful. The room I stayed was a little small for me from what I usually stay in , Protea to me are one of the sisters smaller chains of the Marriott, but not bad. I made work for three night stay . Beds were comfy . The room that I stayed in was very nice, very modern and very chic and new and beautiful . Customer service was amazing from the restaurants breakfast was good , they sung for me and gave me a birthday cake at the restaurant. I was so surprised and in awe felt special . Also and Front desk was great. There was always willing to speak to you help you and was very kind. Location is great and safety . It’s right in Joburg. It has many shops and restaurants and stores easy access to wherever you need to go. The food was great and fresh. Now when it comes to the housekeeping, I was very disappointed not happy. They lack attentiveness. They didn’t listen and they didn’t do a proper job cleaning to me. Felt rush and half done in certain areas. They were strands of hair on the floor they did not refresh all of my towels. when I asked for face cloth. I had to call again for face cloth Not what I expected for my birthday vacation especially at a Marriott people pay money here they should have a high standard when it comes to cleanliness. They didn’t even surprise me with a birthday cake to my room or any decor for my birthday celebration to make me feel special like I normally do when I travel to come back to my room that’s for the cleaning staff. I had to complain about that. They need to pay more attention sweep the floors, clean up everything to their guest and make sure the staff is aware of any special events that’s going on. They made up for it by bringing a cake afterwards, so I do appreciate the front desk for listening to me on that part.
