I had really high expectations for this place based on reviews on this website and others. This was my experience:|Check in/out - I checked in late in the evening. There were 2 staff at the front desk and no one else waiting to check in. I felt quite invisible because one staff went inside and the other staff went to greet and help another lady who had just come in behind me. He then proceeded to check her in while I was left waiting at the desk. A very bad first impression indeed. Strangely my check out was very similar - I went up to the front desk and the same staff attended first to another lady who came after me. I am not sure why he did that both times but it was in poor taste. |Room- I had knowingly booked a room without a view as it was less expensive. Very clean and spacious. I was ok with no view. The bed was too soft for my liking. My favourite part of the room was the bathroom- great shower! Curtains didn’t shut fully. Soundproofing wasn’t great - I could hear noises from outside and footsteps ( I used ear plugs to sleep).|Housekeeping - they did clean the floors, make the bed and replace towels. Amenity kit was never replaced and kitchenette area not cleaned. |Breakfast - I had bfast on one of my days there and it was fantastic.|Location- very good. Close enough to Gran Via. When tired I took buses 46 and 75 to Gran Via instead of walking. Closest metro was Principe Pio which was 7 min downhill from the hotel with an adjacent mall. The Palace and the lovely Opera area were about 10-15 min walk away. |Over and above what I have mentioned, I did have an issue in the room which was sorted out very professionally by a more senior staff ( I think his name was Pedro) when other staff didn’t manage to; and his service recovery was great. Grateful for that. |Overall, mixed feelings about this award...
Read moreIt is disappointing to have to leave a bad review of our recent visit to Jardines de Sabatini as the staff are very pleasant and efficient, and the accommodation, whilst undistinguished, is reasonably clean and generally well maintained.||HOWEVER, the main photograph on the website prominently portrays panoramic views from the roof terrace bar and there is an unequivocal assurance that this area is available to guests 24/7; the exact wording is: "Hotel guests have exclusive access all year long". THEY DON'T and we didn't. On two of the three nights that we stayed there, the terrace was let out for a private function and hotel guests denied any access. Whilst mention is made of the possibility of hiring the space, there is no suggestion that the entire area will be taken over. And also quite unnecessary as it would be perfectly easy to separate and screen off an area for guests if a private booking was made. ||The availability of this amenity was the main reason why we chose to stay at Jardines de Sabatini and not somewhere more centrally located. We anticipated that, after a tiring day seeing the sights of Madrid, it would be very agreeable not to have to go out and look for a restaurant but rather to be able to while away time enjoying the views in the warm evening sunshine with food and drink immediately to hand.||In short we feel that the management deliberately mislead their guests for reasons of pure greed and consequently recommend that if you are considering booking there you make quite sure - and obtain written prior confirmation, that the bar will be available whilst you are...
