We heard a lot of good things about Sky Lounge at Kingsbury so naturally, we were excited to try this place out when we were visiting Sri Lanka. So on New Year's Day (Jan 1st 2024), we decided to visit the sky Lounge for drinks, and dinner and to celebrate the New Year. But instead of giving us a good experience, we were treated as a second class citizen (for context we are Sri Lankan expatriates). We had a reservation and as soon as we walked, we requested a table by the window (the only window table available) which was initially occupied by a couple. However, we were told by the manager that the table is reserved for 10+ people only and we were only five people, which made no sense because again it was initially occupied by a couple who were white. We offered to move if a party of 10 did show up. But the manager rejected us and sternly told us the table is only reserved for party of 10. Again, it made no sense because before, it was just two people. Few minutes later, a ground of 4 "white" patrons came and the manger happily offered the same table to them. When we confronted the manager about this, his responded by saving "I can't ask white people to move". When I pressed about it, he double down by saying we can't "asl white people to move". This is probably the most insulting thing he could have said to us. Is this how employees of Kingsbury thought to treat their fellow Sri Lankans? Even though we spend the same money, do we not deserve the same treatment? Seems like white tourists are given preferential treatments which is disgusting and racist. We decided to cut our stay short and moved on to another restaurant. We will never spend another penny at this racist establishments. I don't know the name of the manager but I hope he learns to treat his fellow Sri Lankans with same level of respect and consideration, as the...

Read moreThe Sky Lounge at the Kingsbury, touts itself to be the most popular rooftop lounge in Colombo. It was on my radar, so it was time to pay a visit. My plan was to get there, enjoy the view, and have dinner there too.The open air rooftop location is magnificent, especially at night. There was a beautiful breeze and the view is nothing but captivating. The resident DJ played a superb selection of music tracks. Live music started at 8 pm and was entertaining. But that alone does not make a destination a happening place.
Service was below par, maybe because I was dining solo? I had to repeatedly flag down the servers, who were indifferent. First there were no napkins, then there was a meager ice bucket, forgot to bring sliced limes, kept taking the menu (beverage and food) away from me. I had to repeatedly tell them that I will be ordering slowly. Nobody listened. Then came the Chicken Winglets (an appetizer). There were 12 lolipops (for 1200 LKR), served in a bowl. Nice presentation. Large portion. But the winglets were over battered, hard and rubbery. Clearly fried from a frozen packet. Not good at all, because it was the final straw that killed...
