Fish & Chips — Local services in Great Britain

Dishonest, very poor experience, for food and for custom service. I was alone in Brighton and I wanted to treat myself to a good fish and Chips. I ordered cod and chips, and I sat outside. I was eating my food until suddenly a seagull swooped up onto the table and necked my fish; causing me to jump out of my seat from shock, while the animal spilled food everywhere. Whilst I was shocked, the first thing that the employe told me was "maybe if you were not on the phone you could have scared the seagull away", clearly very annoyed at me and suggesting the accident was my fault. I stepped away for a few minutes cause I was very confused about what happened. I then went in and asked if I could get a refund or at least if I could have part of my fish back, and they said that they could only give me other chips (which were tasteless), so I said no. I wanted to get the fish back since I didn't have my meal and I paid for it. The other employee replied "we can't help, welcome to Brighton". I walked out of there feeling very miserable and feeling like it was my fault for a seagull stealing my food. I can understand these things can happen and it's nobody's fault, but at least apologizing and showing sympathy would have been a normal thing to do. This only to keep your £8....

4 stars because it's usually, good, dropped a star due to the worst burger ever! Has it changed hands since it was called the Trawlerman? Ordered a burger and chips, £6, dead eyed youth put a small portion of chips in a bag and handed it over. I said that's not a burger and chips! "oh, you wanted a BURGER and chips!". Not only that, I said, I actually ordered a burger and chips. £6.10 please. As it says £6 on the menu, I asked if it had gone up 10pence since the new menus were printed. Dead eyed youth looked at me for a couple of seconds before saying"yes". Got it home, burger was 2 halves of a bun, one of those plastic slices of cheese and a dob of ketchup - no lettuce, no tomato, no charm. I suspect it was the extra 10p because he did a cheeseburger, which means they got my order wrong TWICE. I wonder if he actually knows what's going on around him. Will only go back if the Trawlerman...

Visited the place a few times recently (live locally). Had some great meals there.

Today, not so good. Ordered fish, chips, peas, bread & butter (eat in). The young guy behind the counter took ages trying to find the b&b on the till, so made up a price.

Eating in is usually on a plate, not today, used the takeaway carton. Both fish and chips looked dry, on tasting them, i was correct, plus chips were just warm. I asked him to change the chips, he did. The peas were also cold.

Got my b&b halfway through the meal. Not bread, burger buns. Charged at £1.50 each

The elderly guy (owner i think) came back, he changed the peas.

With being messed about so much, i didn't enjoy it at all.

Could still taste the oil after.
