I never write reviews, but if I could give this place a zero, I would. I ordered a takeaway oat latte, which I waited over 10 minutes for. When the drink eventually came, it was one of the worst coffees I have had from anywhere. They used cows milk, not oat, and the drink was just extremely watery and had no flavour.

I'd only had 2 sips and wanted to throw it out, so I went back to double check if it was Oat milk and just to say that it wasn't too good.

When I asked the nice person at the till if the drink was made with oat milk, she was very nice, apologised and went to double check. This is when the rude and patronising barista (young guy with long brown hair) said to me "well I'm telling you it was made with oat milk, what do you expect? It's mixed with coffee... if you want it to taste like oat milk I can just give you a cup of Oat milk, if that would make you happy?"

At this point I looked at him in disbelief and told him where to go before putting the coffee down and walking out.

The young woman on the till was friendly and nice and I feel sorry for her having to work next to such a person. He should not be working in hospitality if he cannot talk to people properly, not to mention his poor...

I went to Black Mocha on my first morning in Brighton. When I sat down after purchasing a coffee, opening my laptop to look at my itinerary for the day, I heard 2 of the staff talking to each other right behind me (no idea if these 2 were managers or owners as they were sitting at a table and talking to 2-3 other staff at the counter in a loud conversation) and discussing the fact that I wasn’t allowed to use my laptop in the cafe (a rule that was not made clear) and that I would start “influencing” other customers to use their laptops as well. I only deduced that they were talking about me because they kept looking back at me in disdain. The problem is that rather than coming up to me and stating that no laptops were allowed, two of the staff members decided to act completely unprofessionally and behave in a rude manner towards a paying customer not aware that I was overhearing their entire conversation or perhaps not caring. I was so uncomfortable that I got up and left. Very uncalled for behavior from this staff. Absolutely appalled at this service. Will not be coming back here and I urge you not to as well unless you want to encounter discriminatory staff who think they are above basic...

Fabulous service in this cosy little cul-de-sac. Visited the Mocha with five members of the family, and staff were INCREDIBLY ATTENTIVE, as they cleared a space for us to all sit together. Food was served promptly and it was SCRUMMY...! I ordered the salted caramel Mocha which was extraordinary - the best mocha I have EVER tasted. I should expect so too - the shop is named after it..!? Oh! But they did forget to give us our milk for our teas,, however this was soon rectified ... 😃 My ham and cheese toastie was DELISH, just fab and very filling. My companions had the beans on toast, french toast and cheese and pickle toastie which were all great ..! Very very fancy colourful dishes. Atmos hit the spot - groovy music and bubbly staff, this place is a hidden gem ..! Better keep it hush hush 🥰 Its only hamartia was the required tipping fee for the staff which they failed to mention beforehand.? Eight pounds ..? This aside, a lovely place for a quick...

I’m a massive fan of this place, especially on a Tuesday where you can grab brunch and a drink for a tenner - not too shabby! The food here is what really caught my attention, an interesting and diverse menu that has some unique touches and twists away from the overdone avo and egg style brunch. Mine was so tasty and really vibrant and fresh. The drinks are equally as unique, with homemade pumpkin spiced syrup, a chilli hot chocolate which was delicious, and a tasty iced matcha. I worked pretty much all day, and felt well looked after, comfortable and cosy the whole time. The staff are very nice, the prices aren’t extortionate and the place has a relaxed and chill vibe. Maybe a little cramped downstairs, but bright and open upstairs. Fab stuff - see you soon!

I visited the cafe this afternoon with my family. Having been given a lovely warm welcome and asked to take a seat , they'd take our order- it all went downhill from there. The person taking our order promptly told us (more accurately my 2 year old son)that there was a strict no laptop or tablet policy at the weekend. He said that he knew it was the kids but his manager would "literally kill him if there was any exceptions". Having not even switched the device on, we decided the risk to staff's welfare was too high and promptly left. I've lived in Brighton for 7 years and have loved visiting Black Mocha regularly as my cosy sanctuary in the city. I am sad to say I will NEVER be back. Attached a picture the offending tablet.
