Selfridges Foodhall — Local services in London

Awful. We used to frequent the FoodCourt on the fourth floor, which had a range of different cuisines laid out very simply. We used to have a lovely Thali from the Masala Zone concession - freshly cooked. We could then sit in the expansive dining area and eat in peace.

Well, they’ve gotten rid of it entirely, replaced it with a pizza restaurant and shoved Masala Zone downstairs in the Food Hall. It’s now called Masala Express, the food is microwaved, and if you want to eat on-site you are recommended to find a bench somewhere. So, we squeezed into a bench in a tiny cafe area, surrounded by litter from people who’d done the same thing (food cartons, lids and drinks on the floor, on the table and even on the window dressing plants!). I’d be amazed if the place didn’t have rats the way leftover food was left around.

I went to the Turkish food counter as the food looked good. There was a woman complaining of the lack of fork (readily available at most other counters at the food hall mind you), she was shouting and was met with calm from the employees behind the counter. It was my turn next and I asked for a recommendation, all well and then I’m deciding on what I want to accompany the rice and this man starts slamming my food down on the counter as I decide. Made me feel very uncomfortable and I bought food I would otherwise not have bought. Also incredibly steep for £25 for what was essentially rice and avocado. Would not revisit. Treat all customers well not just the ones you deem rich enough to complain of...

Outstanding customer service! I called in advance (and last minute) to ask if they would have my food item available and if they could pack it aside for me if they did. Not only did they do just that but the lovely lady who answered at the concierge was so helpful, she went twice to the bakery to make sure we both had the same item and she even got her evening shift colleagues to look out for me when I asked about my box at the counter.
