Allow me to paint the scene: I am an unapologetic male, so far as bathroom paraphernalia goes, whose knowledge of all things towel-related could comfortably fit onto the back of a flannel. However, I overheard my pregnant wife talking to her sister the other day and she mentioned how she really wanted to get some high quality towels for the bathroom. Seeing this as a golden opportunity to genuinely surprise the love of my life of ten years, sort something out that she actually wanted done, AND make her third trimester just a soupçon less uncomfortable, I hopped onto the White Company site. We lived in England for a few years before moving back to NZ, and I knew that so far as bed linen and towels went, the White Company was the bee's knees. Lo, what did I see that made me think this whole mission had been pre-ordained / had the stars smiling down upon it? A sale. I went to town. I got new towels, new bed linen, and some new PJs for the better half. When I confirmed the order, I was already totting up the brownie points I'd be banking. I couldn't wait to see the look on the better half's face. All seemed rosy. I was able to track the order as it went from London right across the world. Then, one day, I hopped online and checked the progress of the shipment, knowing that it was only a day or so away. It had been cancelled. No explanation. No reason. It just said that it was turning around and going back to the White Company. After getting in touch with, admittedly, a very polite and sympathetic woman on the chat help thing, I was told I could be refunded, but the order couldn't be sent again. The cracking deal I had managed to snare was lostâ**, gone! I was honestly more gutted than I would have expected to be. Not just because I'd quietly been looking forward to those Egyptian high thread count Swiss army towels and bed sheets, but because I know it would've knocked my partner's socks right off her pregnant feet. All in all, the whole experience went from fab to drab quicker than you can say 'hydrophobic bath mat'. I don't know what I expected after I was told I would get a refund. Some kind of credit, maybe? Definitely a better excuse than, 'Oh, these things just happen'. Why couldn't the order have just been re-sent? To be honest, the whole thing left a very bitter taste in my mouth and I don't think I'll be visiting again. Maybe Skandium, Cox & Cox or Graham and Greene...
Read moreBought two pillows, one broke after few weeks of usage and covered my room in feathers. I contacted The White Company to inform them about they issue and I have experienced the worst customer support experience of my whole life. Every email they send contains two paragraphs of apologies for the bad experience, bla bla but then they just ignore my questions. I literally sent and email asking for clarification regarding the address for the return and instead of answering to my question they told me to call the support. You are the support!! You sent me 10 emails already full of nothing beside "you have to deal with everything yourself" and then I have call to ask a basic question about the address? Nonsense.
Stay away from this. If you are lucky and you have no problem with any of the goods you purchase, good. But if you are unlucky and you need something to be replaced then good luck - it's easier to just throw it away and buy it from another company that actually cares about having you...
