Tiana's Bayou Adventure Disneyland ride was underwhelming and takes place during the 1927 Mississippi river flood and depicts Avery Island unfunny salt mine jokes.
I recently been on Tiana's Bayou Adventure at Disneyland. I was originally excited after Splash Mountain would be retired and replaced with Tiana's Bayou Adventure.
First of all, I did like how the queue line was presented as it showed pictures of Tiana's friends and family in 2D animated style. I did like the animatronics of Louis, Mama Odie and the dropoff was still fun and the party scene was fun to look at.
But this Disney ride was so boring most of the time I had to film Doctor Facilier and Lawrence action figures in the video to make it more fun and sing "Friends on the Other Side" because without it the ride is very boring like Jungle Cruise with no conflict at all and it takes 10 long minutes to get through the ride looking at dark empty spaces. Splash Mountain had more characters.
I didn't like how crummy the retheming the Disneyland Imagineers did it and mind you it costed over $142 million to retheme which is a lot of money when they could've easily added more in the ride.
Also many of the characters from The Princess and the Frog 2009 film were absent from the ride, no birds including Spoonbills, cranes, a little blue bird from the Little Golden book, no red and yellow lady butterflies, no deer, 3 possums on a tree branch, no 5 scary crocodiles, no 2 Fenner Brothers, Marcel the cat, Stella the dog, 5 of Tiana's customer guests or Buford Tiana's boss, Reggie, Darnell, Two Fingers who has a deformed hand, no Ray firefly. There's no Lawrence a sidekick villain. No scary shadow spirits, masks, dolls and the worst part of this ride is no Doctor Facilier which is the biggest disappointment ever. Also 3 songs from The Princess and the Frog "Ma Belle Evangeline", "When We're Human", "Friends on the Other Side" is missing especially at the Drop off which should've had a thunderstorm sound effect.
I didn't like how there wasn't hardly a story in the ride to find band members and the end was boring. Also, I don't like that they used 3D CGI for Tiana instead of 2D, it's like they took a model of her from Wreck it Ralph 2 Ralph Breaks the Internet early trailer and then put her in a Jungle Cruise outfit. Also, I cannot sing along to "Special Spice" which is the hardest song that makes my tongue twisted.
Also, this ride features a problematic Salt Mine sign jokes which I don't find funny and needs to be renamed New Orleans Levee hill and Salt Mine signs removed and also they should change Tiana's storyline from buying Salt Mines to her owning a Trucking Farm right next to the levee.
And this ride sequel takes place during the 1927 Mississippi flood in February 1927, 2 months before the April 15, 1927 flooding with 15 inches of rain which almost flooded New Orleans which I'm very surprised they completely ignored when making the ride and I feel they're disrespectful to the 500 drowned flood victims in 1927 and those stranded on the levee.
In conclusion, I would skip this boring problematic 1927 flood ride and go on Grizzly River Run, Pirates of the Carribean, or Jurassic World River Adventures, or Rattlesnake Rapids at Lagoon in Utah instead. And if you decide to go on Tiana's Bayou Adventure, make sure to have an action figure of Dr. Facilier Funko pop like in these pictures since Dr. Facilier isn't in the ride.
I hope this crummy ride gets revised to The Princess and the Frog retelling or else wait for a second retheme like Pocahontas Around the Riverbend, The Rescuers Devil's Bayou Splash or The Emperors New Splash ride. Otherwise skip this boring underwhelming water ride unless you have to ride it in the hot summertime.
Also, your better off buying Tiana's Bayou Adventure little golden to read instead since it has more story conflict and color to it. Even better yet read The Princess and the Frog little Golden Book and watch The Princess and the Frog 2009 on DVD, Blu-ray and Disney Plus it's more...
Read moreI rode DL Tiana’s Bayou Adventure twice in person on October 23 during CM test and again on November 5th during CM/Magic Key previews. So, most Splash Mountain fans don’t have too.
This is considered one of the worst rethemed attractions ever made by current Disney. It is lazy, cheap, rushed, and lacks soul as well as Disney Magic.
I highly do not recommend this attraction at Disneyland. The original Splash Mountain was destroyed and rethemed into this abomination of an log flume ride! What was once an epic, iconic, and beloved attraction in Disneyland was turned into an absolute abysmal ride! Those who keep defending this horrible retheme are coping too much.
DL TBA Pros: Original DL Splash infrastructure, track layout, and drops. Advanced Audio-Animatronics characters. Frogs are cute and charming.
DL TBA Cons: Convoluted and boring storyline. Many empty dark spaces with “bayou” foliage. Boring songs and music. Lack of true Disney Magic. Not iconic and not an instant classic. Soulless Constant breakdowns Post-Final Drop section has less hidden speakers, no music, only ambience, and very dark at night. It used to be lit with hurricane lanterns. Reused altered Splash Mountain set pieces, but bastardized and mostly destroyed reused set pieces. The former Laughin’ Place scene with open spaces where you can see Brer Rabbit, Brer Bear, and the old Dog on the spinning boat was enclosed with a wall and now a frog playing a xylophone in that space. The cave window where you can see the dip drop from the translation from the How Do You Do scene to the Laughin’ Place is also enclosed with a wall. Lacks tension and suspense during the final lift. No villain and no conflict. Mama Odie is a Bayou Godmother in TBA and no longer a Voodoo Priestess. A C-ticket type attraction on a E-ticket type thrill log flume attraction. It is a one and done thing if you ride this abomination in person at least once. No catchy iconic Disney earworm songs TBA doesn’t do justice to the Princess and the Frog movie. Ugly exterior that doesn’t look like an actual bayou in Louisiana. There are no actual mountains in Louisiana. The former rustic iconic Splash Mountain barn entrance was turned into a gross yellow and green Tiana’s Foods office. Horrid propaganda-like murals on the exterior building by the entrance and the walls were originally rockwork walls. The exterior queue is awful and tried too hard to be a garden picket. Most trees and shrubs were cut down and there are less trees for shade on the exterior queue line area for DL TBA. The interior queue of DL TBA is really poorly themed and the salt mine themed queue is not very good. The Brer Rabbit window in the queue near the ride station was covered up. The ride photos are outside now by the former Professor Barnaby Owl building and the former ride photo room is an empty space. Tiana and Louis don’t do much, they just talk and swing their arms most of the time. They don’t even sing the songs until the lackluster Special Spice finale song. Poorly thought-out scenes in the attraction. Poor repetitive dialogue from Tiana, Mama Odie, and Louis. Too many screens that replaced highly-detailed and hand sculpted concrete three-dimensional set pieces and props. Cheap critter Audio-Animatronics with repetitive movements. No true homage to Splash Mountain and the Brers. Only a total of 42 audio-animatronics compare to the once vast total of 103 audio-animatronic animal characters including the Brers in the former original Splash Mountain.
Imagineers didn’t fully watch Princess and the Frog when creating this terrible retheme. True loss of an iconic, beloved, and quintessential Disneyland attraction which was Splash Mountain. TBA is not made out of love and passion, it’s true purpose was to destroy Splash Mountain and it was born out of hatred and knee-jerk reaction in 2020.
Both DL and MK TBA sums up current Disney in a nutshell.

Read moreThe refurbished Splash Mountain into Tiana's Bayou Adventure is cute, but overall boring. As context I didn't really enjoy Splash Mountain when it was there, and on the whole flume rides are not my thing. But my takeaway from this ride was... it's disappointing. First, though, here are some logistics: While it only took me about ten minutes in line, I was utilizing a Lightning Lane for my ride. The actual line was about 60 minutes, sometimes getting up to 70-90 minutes during my visit (August 1-4, 2025). I only rode it once and bought some ponchos from a nearby store just for this ride. The standby and Lightning Lane lines had some extra storyline for Tiana that I enjoyed, but I couldn't really get a good look because I chose to utilize my paid-for pass vs standing in line for an hour. Something about her launching a food brand with support from her community? Anyway, I remembered from a prior Splash Mountain ride that my shoes got absolutely soaked and my remaining trip I had wet feet (ugh), so this time I spent a good deal of time tucking the poncho around myself and feet. The storyline seemed vague, that Tiana couldn't find good musicians for her big bash/launch thing? Like, there aren't any available, decent musicians in Louisiana/Bayou? Lol. Anyway, the plot seemed to be about her finding frog musicians and...a party at the end? And it was about welcoming everyone, using a few of the catchy tunes from the movie, and showcasing that Disney can still make decent animatronics. The ride does tend to break down often, at least twice a day while I was there, so maybe the animatronics aren't that good. And because it was warmer weather, people like flume rides and getting wet, so the lines were looooong. I do think the plot of the ride is boring. When I compare it to The Little Mermaid ride in California Adventure, which is about the actual movie and characters, including the villain, Ursula, this one feels so safe and boring. I missed Ray (his sense of humor!), Naveen (apparently he does nothing of use in Tiana's life so only features at the end party), Lottie (ditto what I just said), and Shadow Man (love me some villain action) who would've spiced up this lackluster gumbo, as it were. Thankfully didn't get wet. Wouldn't bother...
