I live in Colorado but this was my first time in Aspen. It was a surprise anniversary trip my husband made. When he made reservations the hotel was actually closed (off season) but the owner or caretaker? Scott was extremely pleasant and allowed my husband to book a room. When arriving it may look a bit deceiving. It's a little out of date and not "in style" with the rest of Aspen BUT it is SO well located in the town and you have Aspen Mountain right behind the hotel which is a beautiful view. You are within walking distance of all the shops, restaurants, grocery store, bars/pubs/lounges, everything! No need to drive. The actual rooms, again are a little out dated if you compare the rest of Aspen but they are extremely nice and clean. You have a tub and sauna out your private back balcony looking at the mountain. Our room had a "master bedroom" with it's own bathroom. You walk down a small hall and there is another "bedroom" with a pull down bed and another full size bathroom. Next to that, up a couple of stairs is a kitchen with a microwave, fridge and sink. We only stayed one night but this is a great few night stay or a family hotel if you have kids or if you and friends want to share a room. The price is reasonable for where it's located and considering the town it's located in. The only downfall for us...the parking garage. Yes, it's so nice they have a garage and it's secure, great! BUT it's only great for cars and mid size vehicles. It's a tight fit getting in and around the 90° corner and the garage is tiny as well. We had a full-sized older model Chevy, short bed and it was ROUGH. Going into the garage not so much as getting out. If you have a truck I recommend just staying out of the garage. Other than that the hotel was great and I'd recommend...
Read moreFour stars for facilities, five stars for location. Nice place in a fabulous location. The Prospector was built in the 1980's so is dated in design, but it has been regularly refurbished and is very well maintained. Each unit has a bedroom, two full baths, a queen murphy bed and a living room area with a queen sofa bed that also contains a kitchenette and a fireplace. There's also a deck in each unit with a hot tub that looks out on Aspen Mountain. With a location adjacent to Wagner Park, there's arguably not a better location in Aspen Core. It's across the street from the Wheeler Opera House and within walking distance of everything Aspen has to offer. I've stayed here dozens of nights and have always enjoyed it. There are much newer and more luxurious and expensive options close by, but The Prospector is the best...
Read moreThe units are fine but management has very poor communication skills. It’s very cold in the units and they don’t turn the heat on for the building until a certain date in the fall so keep that in mind if you run cold. They do provide space heaters but it’s not really sufficient for the whole place. In the second unit I stayed in, they had a fan, not a space heater, but they kept telling me it was a heater even though it only blew cold air. They said they would bring a new one or come take a look, didn’t and then the front desk took off for the day- I even called the emergency line and they never got back to me. It got so cold at night that I feel ill- it’s really irresponsible to leave a guest hanging in...
