My hip was replaced in October 2020..The surgeon moved to another state. A friend highly recommended Dr. Gallagher so I saw him for my 6 month follow up visit. He was great! Fast forward to June 2023. I started to get out of bed and felt the hip slide out of place. It was freaky. I hadn't fallen but my hip dislocated! On the second attempt at the ER, my hip eas finally pulled back into place but the lining of the cup had torn. I needed revision surgery. To my disappointment, the ER never contacted Dr. Gallagher. The on call ortho from another practice did the revison surgery. I saw the surgeon's PA at my follow-up visits. He hadn't been present at my surgery and i never got an explanation of what had occured. I completed my PT and while my hip certainly worked, my movement felt constrained. Was it my loss of confidence or was it something else? Finally I made an appointment with Dr. Gallagher to find out. His assistant took an X-ray. Dr. Gallagher put that x-ray next to my original and thoroughly explained every difference on the two. Finally, I understood that during surgery that the ball of my hip along with the lining of the cup had been replaced. He said that the on call ortho had done an excellent job. The differences in the ball and the constrained liner should work to prevent another dislocation. And yes, the liner was constraining my movement a bit..He also explained that the numbness & spasms in my foot were likely caused by my sciatic nerve. My foot had gone numb at the moment my hip dislocated. Fortunately, the good doctor explained that it would eventually heal in a year to 16 months. He said that exercise would help it heal. Hip dislocation is anxiety inducing, to say the least! The anxiety was increased by the hospital not calling the surgeon I requested. My review is probably too long but after 6 months of worrying about what had happened in revision surgery and worried that the initial dislocation had caused permanent nerve damage, having a doctor spend the time with me to thoroughly review my x-ray and listen to my concerns meant everything to me! Dr. Gallagher was kind and he thoroughly put each of my concerns to rest. He encouraged me to continue my long walks and my exercise routine, both of which are important to me. He even gave me specific exercises to add daily as well. I never felt rushed or that my fears were silly. Dr. Gallagher gave the back the confidence I lost that 1st Saturday morning in June. That was at least as important as my new hip. I appreciated Dr. Gallagher's kindness & expertise. Both helped me to trust his assessment that the surgery was excellently done. It's rare these days to have a doctor spend the time, to listen. His assistant and the front desk staff were also helpful and kind. Putting patients first is obviously a priority of this practice! I cannot recommend Dr. Gallagher highly enough! While I hope that I never have to have another hip surgery, if i were to require it, I wouldn't think of having anyone but Dr....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI am beyond thankful for Dr. Benjamin Amis and his whole staff at ATX Ortho and the Pinnacle Surgery Center in Austin, as well. I had to have surgery to repair some nerves in my hand. The level of care was completely top notch. I had my first visit with Dr. Amis because I had a laceration to my wrist and I lost pretty much 75% of the function in my left hand. From the moment Dr, Amis walked into the room, he was professional, very informative, had the absolute BEST bedside manner. I felt as though I was talking to a friend. He gave me a diagnosis and it, ultimately, was surgery. I got a little discouraged because I was moving out of state within the next week. But at the same time he made me feel completely comfortable with the prognosis. I left there feeling relieved to have the answers as to what I would be looking at when I got to my new home, states away. I felt like it was only a matter of days and Dr. Amis called me, himself, and stated āIāve made a way, I think we can get this done before you go to Colorado.ā This is the type of care that I am speaking of when I say ātop notch.ā I was ecstatic. The entire staff, the whole process, insurance, checking in, every nurse, the sweet anesthesiologist, etc⦠and Dr Amis.. I honestly do not believe there would be a single thing I would improve. Dr. Amis called me the next day, himself, to check on me. I canāt speak enough about him, his knowledge, his level of care for his patients. It is evident that this is Godās will for his life. Thank you Dr. Amis, and the entire staff. I was completely alone for this surgery but every employee made me feel like family. I actually never felt alone at all. ATX Ortho has...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIn June I had a traumatic injury to my left arm while working out. Even more serious as I am a left handed dentist and my arm is essential to my livelihood. Dr. Benjamin Amis and his staff were able to see me the very next day for an assessment. Dr. Amis did a thorough exam and suspected a distal bicep tendon rupture. His staff went above and beyond to get me a same day MRI that was in my network of insurance. The MRI showed that I did indeed tear my left bicep tendon. My surgery was soon scheduled for the following week. Dr. Amis went through the procedure, discussed the possible risks involved and was felt extremely confident in his ability to perform the surgery. You have to understand my apprehension as any nerve injury from the surgery could significantly impact my future in dentistry. Outpatient surgery was performed and I have to say my recovery has been pretty remarkable. I was able to return to dentistry in a week and half (probably much sooner than he would have liked). It is now 6 weeks later and I have full range of motion and I am working on getting my strength back. I have been extremely pleased with the results and the care of his and his team. This is my second visit to his office as I had an injury to my right hand two months before. My experiences have been nothing short of terrific. They provide a small town feeling of care when you need it the most. 5 stars! Dr. Richard Donkersgoed - Forest Family Dentistry...
