Landmark Church — Local services in Bakersfield

We have been looking for a Christmas centered, Bible preaching, ministry outreach, friendly church...after enjoying a nice meal at a Jersey restaurant, a lovely couple started telling us about the church they attend in Ocean City. We decided to try it the next Sunday. Greeted by a man in shorts and a sweatshirt, my husband grinned, he too loves wearing shorts and sweatshirts. The band was already playing when we entered the sanctuary. Truly talented, more importantly..worship minded and Christmas centered. The Pastor was a man's man. His examples included sports, golfing, a woman sporting a bow and arrow and hunting range. Anyone who has been visiting churches lately, you may have noticed men are in short supply. So for us, walking in to a beach community church, seeing both casual and dressy attire, friendly men and women, a large number of people of all ages and a Pastor who preached the gospel message in truth, with conviction, passion, and in love.. delivering it in a way that reaches men, the younger generation,(both in a current decline in churches across America) and dedicated to being a church that prays, wow! Best church in this area. The pastors preach and teach straight from the Bible, verse by verse. In a country full of churches with watered down sermons, that take one verse from the Bible and then just rant about it for 20 mins, it’s refreshing to be back home where nothing is watered down, they’re not walking on eggshells as to not hurt anyones feelings, it’s straight biblical truth. Worship is the best and LOVE that they will work in some throwback songs as well. People are nice, not that sticky sweet nice that’s too much and seems fake, it’s a genuine nice. Both Matt’s have true GIFTS from the Lord to teach the Word. The sermons are well educated, thorough, and Spirit led and sometimes funny, but also have a way of keeping even a bored teenagers attention. The Holy Spirit is definitely moving in this place and in the hearts of those listening. Attended Coastal and supported it financially for years. Matt Stokes is an awesome preacher and a tremendous communicator of the Word. We left the church in 2020 when it got political. Matthew Maher would go on and on during his so-called sermons about how we should all support Trump and how the alternative in the election would be to destroy our country with socialism. It just got too much. We came to church to be uplifted by God's Word and to learn to how encourage one another, not to hear words of hatred that are meant to further divide us. Matt Maher is entitled to his own opinions, and I would defend his right to stand up for a candidate to cheated on his three wives, told over 30,000 lies while in office and encouraged an insurrection that was the greatest challenge to our democratic system in 250 years.
