I just wanted to apologize for my visit to this Staples location earlier today. I was hoping to return a duplicative purchase I made on Amazon as both the Staples and Amazon websites explicitly suggest. The purchase was in the original cardboard box with the original packaging and shipping materials, as it has never been opened. Therefore, after my wait in line, I approached the service desk hopeful that it would be a smooth transaction. I was quickly dispelled of that notion by the Staples employee who asked if I had a QR code. I was not aware of such a requirement, so I asked if the QR code on the original packaging qualified. The absolutely charming and not at all irrationally exasperated Staples employee asked if I had a QR code that has not already been used for shipment. I did not believe so (though I'm still not certain) so I retreated to locate the appropriate code. Shortly after, I was able to generate a QR code for a return. After another wait in line, I was informed that the QR code would only function at a UPS store. How ignorant of me!! Only the most obtuse lack the ability to decipher something as lucid as a QR code. As to whether Amazon purchases can be returned at a Staples and what that process might even remotely look like, well, all those things remain a mystery to me. The package weighs 56 pounds, so you can imagine how excited I was to lug it around the parking and retail complex to the Staples location in the first place, only to learn that customer service was such an anathema to some of the employees here and to then carry it back the same route to my car.
So, again, I regret that I assumed that I would be met with anything less than indifference when contempt is clearly what I deserved and was promptly delivered to me. I wrongfully assumed that those employed by Staples are at least, in part, compensated for their willingness to assist their customers. We order the supplies for our office at staples. We ran out of water and I placed an order via our corporate account and added the name of the individual to the pick up. They sent me an email with my name and the pick up person on the email saying all that needed to be brought was the photo ID and the email to pick up the items. He gets to the store and they say he cant pick up the items because for some reason the system doesn't have his name as the alternate pick up and because the system doesnt have his name, the email they sent me moments earlier that lists him as the alternate pick up cant be used. Your joking right?? so he gets back tells me all of this, and so now I have to go and pick up the package myself. I get there and at first speak to an associate who explains the unexplainable and then the manager shows up to further explain the unexplainable I then just say ok let me just get my water or I'll just go somewhere else meaning the rockville location (yay). He says let me see your ID I say its a business its not going to have the same name as my ID.
