Skis - Boots - Bindings Awesome Experience!
Shattered my old ski boot on Opening Day which meant All New Equipment as newer boots and pretty old bindings are incompatible.
Everyone I spoke to (at least a dozen people) on the Mountain, on the slopes, and in a different rental shop said.... "Goldsmiths! Go see Dallas or Jim."
I've heard about this store for years, and now, with a whole season ahead, I needed them.
I have to say everyone I spoke to in this store was friendly, interested, eager and engaging, from the front counter to fitting, rentals, returns, and repairs. Everyone!
I met Dallas Monday afternoon and tried on at least 6-7 different boots. He measured, asked questions, made suggestions, and listened. I have a high instep and my foot always goes numb. Not Anymore. Dallas set me up with the Lange LX 120 HV and tricked it out with custom fitting. Three solid ski days in total boot comfort. It's going to be a great season.
Next, we discussed skis and he recommended I demo 3 pair (1 day) at a very reasonable price. Goldsmiths will credit two demo days toward a purchase in the same season. What an awesome deal. We talked, he listened, and made some great recommendations. Day one was great. He listened to my feedback and made additional recommendations to demo 3 more on Day 2.
I didn't think I would notice and understand the nuances of each ski, but it was really easy to feel and narrow it down after 6 skis. I took the favorite for one final run - on tired legs - to verify it was THE ski. Five... Runs... Later , I made my decision.

Read moreI hate giving this business a lower rating, however the end result of my experience doesn't warrant a higher rating. First, the staff, from the owner Dallas, to Jen to Jim at the front of the store, were more than helpful when I made a reservation online and picked up the skis I reserved for my son for skiing the next day. Although my son is a level 1 skier, the bindings were set to "0" and the boot to binding set up was not correct. On our first run, he continually popped out of his bindings, without even falling. We had to spend almost 2 hours of our morning off the runs and waiting in the repair line to get them set correctly, which cost another $10. Once the repair was made, everything was great. I thought I would save time and money renting from Goldsmith's, but in the end it costed me more of both. However, it was when I made the return and explained what happened that was upsetting. I did not get the name of the person I returned the equipment to, but when I explained what happened that day, he responded with, "well, the skis were set up to your specs, level 1"... that was it. There was no, "sorry for the inconvenience", no offer to refund the $10 I spent to correct the problem, or even $10 off for a future rental... he just let me walk out. I had 1 day of skiing with my son and wasted nearly 2 hours of it due to improper set up of the equipment. I'm sure this shop is better than this but it wasn't...
Read moreI just purchased a pair of Volkl Mantra M7s and cannot be happier, but I get ahead of myself. I first went to Goldsmiths a few days ago, when I had a break between work obligations, and decided to run up to Big Bear to hit the slopes for the day. It being my first time in the area I looked to Google reviews to pick a place to go and their rating does not let you down. The staff is well versed, enthusiastic, and happy to help, as well as seeming to be genuinely happy with their jobs. Jay guided me to a set of skis to try out and immediately told me that the demo cost could be applied to the purchase cost!
Fast forward a few days and I found myself with another day off from work due to inclement weather in the Coachella valley, hence another perfect day to head up to the mountains and grab some turns. This time without any prompting the staff steered me to trying out two skis at the same time while only charging me for one demo!
Needless to say, and as noted in my first sentence above, when I brought the demos back today I had decided which style to go with and the management team happily worked with me to make me leave a extremely happy customer. Have to run now, to go inside and pick up my new skis that they mounted in just over an hour, while I got lunch down the street at a place they suggested; which also did not...
