The place is a little pricey for standard hardware store products and even steeper for a store that big. I asked for a chimney sweep brush and he sent me down the push room row. After I noticed this person probably had no idea what I was talking about so I started describing other fireplace related items and was again sent down the wrong path. After I started browsing for the correct row, he pops around the corner " sir can I help you"? Then followed me like I was stealing. After I located the chimney sweep I looked at the price! $181 bucks. No thank you I'll drill some holes through a rubber hose, lace some weed Wacker wire through it, and hose clap it to my bore snake for like 3 bucks buddy. The staff had no idea what my actual needs were, they charged me more than 3 bucks for the piece of scrap hose I grabbed from the bucket. They treated me like I was gonna rob them. This was about two days after I went there looking for lawn mower blades. Note I have the same model that they have 10 of outside chained together and they did not have the blade set I needed that was priced at $56 bucks. All said and done I went to the local hardware store, staff knew exactly what I was looking for as I was promptly greeted as I walked in. They had the blades I needed, not in a set but 1 for $7.95 and I got 2. Math says that's about 18 buck. I got the chimney brush I needed that they had there for $36 bucks. So for 54 bucks? Cheaper than just the blades they didn't have. I got everything I needed. None of the isles were taped off "employee assistance needed" the staff at brand x local understands the customer and knows the inventory. It's a no brainier for me. I am not even bound by their own product. Lol..Reasonably price, availability, knowledge staff, great customer experience is not what you will get here. But not to far away you can find it pretty easy. I will not use this...
Read moreFor many years, I have purchased Craftsman lawn mowers. Usually the professional series. They have always done a great job, had features that I liked and had a Briggs and Stratton engines. Today my lawn mower died and I needed to purchase a new mower. Since Sears is no more, I decided to buy one locally that had a shop that could work on them. I went to the north Ace location and started looking at mowers. The store manager (owner's son) came over and started telling me about all the features of the mowers, from the least expensive to the most expensive. He didn't try to sell me one or the other; just letting me know the differences. I was really surprised at his knowledge. I could tell that he wasn't just quoting facts and figures off a brochure. He was incredibly nice and very professional. I purchased a 'hold over' model from last year as it had the features I wanted (and more) and it was also $100 off. The person at the counter that rang up my purchase also filled out my warranty info and the store manager filled the mower with gas and oil; ran the mower and helped me load it up. I would definitely recommend Ace hardware if you are looking for a lawn mower! Five stars for my...
Read moreWalking in this store takes me back my childhood when clerks were friendly, accommodating and happy to help you with anything you needed. That no longer exists in my hometown in SE SD, but it is still alive and well at this Ace. Sure things cost a little more than at the big box houses or online...but it is worth every penny to have people that know what they are doing readily available and willing to help with any project. These folks will load the sand into the back of your truck, help solve your plumbing problems, or get you setup with a soldering iron. Great people.
Update...continued great service at this store every time I come in! Hey cry babies...they are all always wearing masks to make you feel better...because that is all a mask will do... make you "feel" better. If you think it will stop covid you are insane. Hold up some perfume in front of your mask...do you smell it? Yeah you do...because the mask say right on them "does not prevent transmission of biological agents" because they are not a...
