Iām being treated at mass general for breast cancer. Had surgery there ten days ago and have been at beacon house for my recovery. First several nights I had no heat, and the air conditioning was on full blast. Asked for more blankets or a space heater and only finally received one after asking for five days. My room has no ventilation as the window is sealed with plexiglass. Last night, I returned back after dinner to find that the ceiling had sprung a leak and it was basically raining in my room, on my bed, medications, and my brand new laptop. The overnight maintenance person put me in a different room but would not assist me in moving my belongings. I canāt lift more than ten pounds as Iām recovering from surgery. In massive pain today and the manager has not offered any reimbursement or accommodations that are appropriate. The new room Iām in is dirty, and the vents need serious cleaning. I opened the drawer in the chest of drawers to find peanuts and crumbs and hair from the previous tenant. This place is fine for families of patients, but absolutely not for anyone who is convalescing. Not to mention it is a very steep walk up the hill from the hospitwl and they donāt offer any sort of assistance with transportation. Iām incensed that my family is actually paying money for this. Itās not a safe or sanitary place and I would only stay here as an absolute last resort . Hotels in Boston and around MGH are prohibitively expensive. But Iād rather go into debt than spend one more...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe Beacon House is an economical place to stay when one needs to be close to MGH, not to mention it is in a lovely old section of one of Boston's most famous neighborhoods. Though most of the apartments are residential, the first 2 floors are available for guests with hospital connected needs. Each suite is decorated nicely and has a bathroom big enough for wheelchair needs, a kitchenette with dishes and silverware in case you'd like to "eat in" (a WHOLE FOODS Store is close by with a fabulous hot or cold buffet/ take out selection...you can also eat there if you choose...they open at 7:00 AM, so this is a great place for a hot breakfast before heading off to MGH), 2 chairs and a table, beds as requested, TV, land line phone service, extra bedding and pillows, and 24 hour security in the lobby (...which is beautifully finished and in keeping with that turn of the century Boston style!). There are a number of good restaurants in the area, in all different price ranges. (Also, MGH has a wonderfully full and diverse cafeteria...it is a real pleasure to eat there!). Call to make sure there is enough room for you to stay, as it can fill up fast! When dealing with hospital visits, it's nice to know there is a safe place to stay near by. Also, a single friend who stayed there said the police were more than willing to take her from MGH at night to the front door of the Beacon House, and they watched to make sure she got inside safely. I truly recommend the Beacon House , and hope this review has been...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy family loved the Beacon House ā¤ļø, it was very close walking distance to Mass General Hospital. We stayed there about a month until my mother died at Mass General Hospital. They were very caring and respectful and because my mom was in ICU they gave the room to us for half price which was so wonderful considering what we were already going through. We had the only room with the bathroom and shower in it which gave us much needed privacy. Sometimes you just have to cry in privateš¢. It also had two single beds in it and a cot in the closet with extra blankets. It had a community full kitchen in it as well as a stove and oven and refrigerator so we could get up together in the morning and regroup together at the community kitchen table having complimentary coffee and breakfast before the short walk to the hospital to see my mother. I cannot say enough good things about Beacon House to give it the justice it so deserves. Thank youš so much for your help and support during the sad time in our...
