I'd like to update my original review due to the exemplary and superb continuing service and follow-up I have received from Larry and Caroline. It is not often that merchants or businesses continue follow-up with a customer long after a sale is made, unless they are trying to sell something else. In my experience, Larry and Caroline's follow-up well after the sale was impressive. They worked to make sure all items worked and were delivered as expected and certainly went above and beyond any of my expectations well after my purchase. In my experience, Caroline worked hard to come through with the product as promised while Larry has continued to ensure my timepiece is in perfect working condition. The quality of follow-up and care they have provided far exceeds many other businesses of luxury goods and I am left impressed by their genuine desire to stand behind their service and products.
I have never left a review for any products, but my recent experience at this merchant and, more importantly, my incredibly pleasant experience with Mike Shaw compelled me to leave a comment. Recently, I walked in to browse some watches (Panerai and IWC in particular). I never planned to make a purchase as I am someone who researches and plans such types of purchase as they are rare for me and I look for a particular feature in such items. Upon walking in, I received much more than I expected or bargained for from Mike Shaw. First of all, he was incredibly knowledgeable about every intricate detail of each watch, provided in-depth information and answers to my questions and had very thoughtful recommendations. Although I came in close to closing time, at no point did he, nor the staff make me feel rushed or pressured to make a purchase, especially given that I had informed him from the outset that I was simply learning a little more about the two watch brands and their products. In fact, I was made to feel welcomed and valued as a potential customer while browsing their inventory. I must say that I am shocked, yet very excited and happy that Mike Shaw's attention to every detail of my needs resulted in my purchase of "just the right" timepiece on the spot that I would have wanted. With the time he devoted to me, he in fact, assisted me with settling on the watch that I knew I would eventually return to purchase. Mike's attention to my preferences, past choices, and my current wishes resulted in him pulling out just the watch that I had envisioned to add to my collection, and therein is what motivated my instantaneous purchase. I knew I could have walked out, thought about it, and never felt any pressure to make a purchase on the spot; however, his keen attention to a customer and the respectful manner of his approach is what resulted in the successful sale. It is without hesitation that I recommend this store and, in particular Mike Shaw, to anyone looking for a superb level of assistance and respectful treatment whether you are in the early or late phases of planning a watch purchase. I don't think the amount of stars conveys the stellar experience I had at this store, for not only a purchase, but to learn the details of each brand. Mike's follow-up has also been stellar. He has diligently and thoroughly ensured all aspects of my watch experience were met following the purchase. In addition, I would like to say that their watchmaker, Larry, whom I have known for over a decade is a superb specialist who is quite detail oriented and talented in his craft. It is clear this is not simply a vocation for him, but an artwork and his calling He is the only individual whom I have entrusted any service/repairs for my watches, my family's watches, and closest of friends' timepieces. He has always resolved the most complex of issues, even issues other high end jewelers had been unable to fix after several attempts. I know he is a true asset (their "crown jewel") to Shreve Crump and Low and to me, Larry and Mike are certainly a fantastic combination . I look forward to visits to this store for all of my...
Read moreWent looking to buy an Omega Seamaster back in January. It was my first visit to SC&L and it will be my last.
The watch showroom felt like it was 100 deg. F. even though it was freezing cold outside that day.
There were 3 people working there: one who was just walking around doing nothing, one who came and left every few minutes for no apparent reason, and one dealing with someone high school-aged and their father, who after about an hour, walked out empty-handed.
I patiently waited for someone’s free time then kindly asked to try on the watch I wanted. I wore my Speedmaster hoping to build some rapport, but the salesman couldn’t care less. He robotically opened up the Seamaster and adjusted the bracelet while running through a script of the watch’s features (all of which I already knew.) While I liked the watch, I didn’t like the lack of the “AD experience” everyone says is supposed to be better than shopping on-line. (An experience other Boston watch dealers do provide.) So I thanked him for his time and left.
Meanwhile, my wife browsed for jewelry, and received the level of pushiness you’d expect from a mall jewelry store like Zales. “You mean you’re not going to take that [piece of jewlery] home with you?”
I’m very glad all of these new watch brand boutiques are opening up in Copley Sq. and on Newbury St. SC&L needs the competition to get their attitudes adjusted. Hopefully Boston gets an Omega Boutique as well, to really put SC&L on notice.
PS: I later bought my Seamaster from a very friendly, patient, and reasonable out-of-state Omega AD over the phone. Even though I was a first-time customer, and it was a remote transaction, they offered superb service and a nice...
Read moreI was in Boston this weekend for an event and had some free time. What do I do with my free time? Visit watch shops of course. I finally made some time to visit Shreve Crump & Low on Newbury St. This was my first time visiting SC&L, so I had no idea what to expect. SC&L is well known for its jewelry collection, but I didn't know much about the watch section.
My visit to SC&L was fantastic for two reasons: 1. Their watch collection occupies the entire second floor of the building. The second floor is not extremely large. That being said, they make great use of the space as they have watches in every nook and cranny. The collection of new and pre-owned watches is superb. I might go far to say it is the best in the Boston area. They are an authorized dealer for numerous brands including very top end brands as well as respectable mid-tier brands. I saw new watches covering a broad range of price points; Nomos, B&M, Zenith, JLC, FP Journe, etc..
I mentioned that my visit was fantastic for two reasons. The 2nd (and most important) reason the visit was fantastic is because I had a chance to interact with Christopher W. at SC&L. Christopher, approached with a very warm, welcoming, and GENUINE greeting. We talked watches, straps, etc., for what must have been 30+ minutes. Our discussion was full of laughter and learning (at least on my part). I have never had so much fun and felt as welcomed as I did when visiting with Christopher at SC&L. Christopher is very knowledgeable about watches and is willing to share what he knows. If you are in the Boston area, and are looking for watches, and want to do so in a low pressure environment with a genuinely good person, then look up...
