Amazing and worthwhile place to stay while visiting downtown Boston. The breakfasts are great (yes it's a simple cold breakfast) and kept me full until lunch. 24/7 coffee and tea service, which was great. Comfortable beds and spacious rooms decorated for the time which they represent. It was also nice seeing/using the antique desk to write post cards to friends and family. And, the best part about this whole experience is that a portion of my expense goes towards a scholarship. Knowing that my money is helping to make a difference for someone at a local college, rather than a large corporation chain, made it that much better. If you are intending on visiting downtown Boston, then I encourage you to check out the distance/time it takes to walk to downtown from this location. My spouse and I were able to walk to the Italian village in 25 minutes, and sight see through the park on our way. We did not take a taxi/lift until it was time to go to the airport.

What a fine stay in a fine city! Cosy, quiet, and very historic this location is an absolute joy. The single rooms are very large and comfortable and my shared bathroom was just divine (I should add I never had a problem sharing, did not even see the other guest). The complementary bath robe was superb. My view over Commonwealth Ave. was very nice and the interior of the building is very inviting and comfortable with large ceilings and elegant staircases and reading niche. I would book again in a heartbeat. Please don't hesitate to book here nor hesitate to indulge in the wonderful homemade chocolate chip cookies they provide all day! Boston Public Gardens a minute walk away (less than a block!)

Excellent location. Easy to walk to many sites. 2 blocks to green line’s Arlington T. ||I stayed 5 nights in a room with a shared bath. Both were spotless. There were 4 rooms on my floor, 2 of which were en-suites. I only had a slight wait for the bathroom once, having to share with just one other room. There is only shampoo & soap in the bathroom, no conditioner or lotion. ||The bed was extremely comfortable. The room was well-lit with several lighting sources except for the area next to the mirror. I used the hallway mirror, with the light streaming in from the skylight, to put on makeup. There was no closet just a coat rack with hangers on it, which was perfectly fine. ||There is a satisfying send-off of a cold continental breakfast each morning from 7:30-10. There’s 24-hour tea/coffee, fruit & cookies here, which is a nice plus after a full day out. There’s a fridge for shared use here, none in the room. It’s a nice area to meet other guests, if you’re so inclined. ||The staff is the best here. All the staff greeted me every time I passed them. They are so friendly & helpful! The office insightfully offered off-the-beaten-track sightseeing options. Communication from them before I got here was clear. The office is open during the day. You are given codes for the front door & your room. ||I found the area around the hotel very quiet, but I am from a major city & live on a noisy, main street. My room faced Commonwealth St. There was an A/C unit, that I didn’t use in the window, letting in some noise but it didn’t affect me. They do offer earplugs. ||When I’m on vacation, I want to sleep peacefully. However, my big complaint here is that I was woken up on 2 mornings by the staff. The weekend staff was so quiet. Yay! During the week the woman cleaning rooms & the man were very loud, especially the woman. They were carrying on loud, personal chitchat both in the hallway & in the room next to me with the door open. I could even hear her from the floor below. Voices carry even more in a house! Another morning a contractor was in evaluating repairs. As he went from floor to floor with a staff member, they loudly chatted & laughed while banging walls as his cellphone rang loudly. Kudos that they are maintaining this lovely building. However, a heads up would have been extremely appreciated. I would not have planned to sleep in that day & would have adjusted my bedtime. It also would have been better if this appointment was in the afternoon & not first thing Monday AM, which I realize may not have been possible. ||I’m not sure if I would stay here again. On the one hand I loved it here. On the other hand, I value my sleep & get quite annoyed when I’m woken up...

The old brownstone is lovely and situated right near the public gardens. I booked a lower-priced queen room with a shared bathroom. I never saw anyone else using the bathroom which was conveniently located just down the hallway. If you're after a pristine room, this isn't the place for you. Lampshades are a bit stained, carpeting is worn and little things like the towel rack and hot/cold water handle in the shower were loose or broken. I didn't get the sense that the proprietor really cares much about details. For instance the wardrobe in my room had a motley assortment of plastic hangars that felt more goodwill than a nice BandB. Similarly the bookcase had dozens of books that were old, dusty and rather than being nice additions, just felt like they were dumped there. Oddly, the book on top of one stack was on masturbation. Also there various items: a side table, a lectern and other various pieces of furniture stored awkwardly at the top of the stairway in the hall.||||I had a room that looked out on Commenwealth Avenue. Although there was a newer double-pane window, it had an in-window a/c unit which meant there was lots of street noise. Fortunately I'm a heavy sleeper and this didn't bother me, but if it concerns you make sure you get a room away from the traffic. Also the floors creak loudly and I could hear the conversation in the adjacent room rather clearly so if you're after acoustical privacy, be forewarned.||||The continental breakfast was lovely. I appreciated having Greek yogurt, fresh fruit and croissants. The woman in charge of the breakfast room was very professional and kind.||||I felt like the owners could take as little as $2000 and make minor repairs/improvements that would spruce the place up. As I said in my review title, it was still a good value given the location and the place has its charm. I was just there for one night and it served my...

My wife and I stayed at the College Club for four nights in October 2023. It's an interesting old building. We had one of the rooms with the ensuite bathrooms. The room was large and quite clean, but the bathroom was a bit worn in a few places. The room had two full beds, not a queen or a king.||Our room opened onto an alley in the back, and unfortunately it seemed that most days garbage trucks worked their way down this alley starting very early in the morning, like 5:30 AM, and made a lot of racket. The room has a white noise machine that we used, which was helpful, but not much could cover that noise up. I'm not aware of how rooms on the front of the building towards Commonwealth Avenue might be for sound.||Breakfasts are continental and adequate - yogurt, croissants, hard boiled eggs, juice - nice enough, but if you want a hot served breakfast, this is probably not the place for you.||Still, for us, these were minor issues, and the historic nature of the building and the room, along with the excellent location, made our stay enjoyable. You are only a short walk away from the Public Garden, the Common, Beacon Hill, and the Freedom Trail. We would stay again...
