As soon as my husband and 2 sons went in to see the guns. An associate Edgar "Johnson" was extremely rude through the whole interaction, which I understand they have their rules. But we kept looking as my husband wanted me to buy a small gun. He found one he thought I liked, I left my wallet with my ID in the car. I asked my son to get my wallet, and then the associate asked if the gun was for you or him, I told him it's for me. He then starred into my eyes in a very rude trying to intimidate me. I told him I would like th gun. He took my ID, and then I noticed I didn't have my Debit card. So I asked for my husband for his, he said no I can't use the debit and, so I said ok let me get cash. He said you know what I am going to get my manager come talk to you. The manager came said per the associate I was buying the gun for my husband. I told him no, my husband saw the gun and asked if I liked it. The associate kept trying to ask for my husband's ID when he clearly stated it was for me. My husband wanted me ti buy it in my name since it was for me. The manager stated my transaction was fishy. Per the rules it looks fishy that my husband didn't purchase the gun and I kept asking for his "assistance". I asked I have a credit card that I wasn't even given an option to use. The associate just said it was not rightm the manager then put me in the academy denial for the next 30 days. I asked why wasn't I given the option just made me feel like a criminal without any explanation. I understand the rules, he didn't want to give me my ID, the manager was no help. I asked for complaint department he just gave me the 1800 academy number. He told me I couldn't buy anything, I told since he was helping us he was rude. I tried to give him a chance he was just rude. I am not a racist person but that's how he made me feel due to the color of my skin. Everyone around me was being helped but none were the color of skin. I left super upset with this store and how they handled the situation infront of others making me feel like I was wrong. Read moreI will never purchase a firearm from Academy ever again…my experience with Edgar Johnson at the firearms counter in Spring Branch was not positive and the overall customer service experience with him left a bad taste in my mouth…was not worth the minor savings…i have also been calling to follow up and when it transfers you over to the firearm counter the call drops…never again! 1/16 Follow up: I had to cancel my gun order, store would not release was put on a 30 day hold but no one could tell me why (FBI has 3 days to clear) but heres the best part, they wont refund my money they took right away until they make sure they get the gun they never released to me back at the warehouse! 8-10 days to get my money back!
