I wish I had a better experience to report with Cannon Beach Vacation Rentals.

In February, my fiance and I went into their office in person to inquire about available houses for our upcoming wedding. We wanted to have our ceremony on the beach, and a very intimate backyard dinner afterward. We found a beachfront house that was available for August 2020, and agreed to rent this house for a week per their policy. We signed the contract and put a deposit down on the house.

We got a call this last Friday (six months after we made our reservation, now a year out from our planned wedding), saying their company policy states those who have rented a house for a given week this year, have first availability to renting the house during the same time next year- the renters who are currently in the house have agreed to rent again next year, and because of this, they would be cancelling our reservation. We were never informed this was even a remote possibility, and had been planning our ceremony and dinner around the house we had rented. The woman on the phone was the same person I made the reservation with six months ago, and she was new at the time- they also provided us with zero alternative options, and left us out to dry. Instead of working with the renters who are in the space at this time to find alternate dates next year, they simply cancelled our reservation, knowing we were coming for my wedding.

I am not upset with the individual who made the reservation as I understand how difficult being in a new employment role can be, but I am horrified at how tactlessly Cannon Beach Vacation Rentals chose to handle this situation. I never once spoke to an owner or manager, but only to the employee who made the reservation in February. We lost six months of planning opportunity- my fiance and I chose Cannon Beach because it was the location we first took a vacation together. At this time, we are completely out of luck for finding an alternate venue for the same date, and will likely have to reschedule my entire wedding (including the likelihood of having to move it outside of Cannon Beach given we're now only a year out and my wedding was planned for peak season) because of Cannon Beach Vacation...

We just had a week long stay with our family in the Windjammer home in Cannon Beach. Cannon Beach Vacation Rentals was very good to work with. The home has a beautiful ocean front view of Haystack Rock. It has nice windows for beach and sunset viewing. The home itself is in disrepair. For the price we paid we were disappointed. Our daughter said it was more like glamping.. It is a very old home. We knew this upfront however did not realize so many thing were broken and not working. Refrigerator was not cooling correctly, tiles were broken in the floor, shower was plugged up, light bulbs were not replaced, window upstairs was broken. We finally took the window off. One of the toilets was not cleaned and was disgusting. The company did come and clean it and tried to fix the refrigerator and the shower. This is also is not a good home for handicapped as the stairs would be too hard to navigate. The best thing was the view and location. We would not recommend this home until there are repairs made and kept up better. We would not stay at this...

I have rented from CBVR for a number of years, always with very pleasant results. I have stayed in the same house multiple times and have reservations for the same place next year. They became part of Meredith Lodging during this time and service has decreased. When I made the latest reservation on June 29 of this year, for next summer, Meredith Lodging somehow charged me twice for the initial fee, an overcharge of $3500 or so. Trying to get them to refund the overcharge has been difficult. I have called over 15 times, and each time a helpful customer service person tells me that they will reach out to Accounting to tell them of my issue.
