I’ve been sitting on this review since last week- where we had went in for our 1st time. It was around the 5’oclock hour. We’re older and like to eat our dinner at an earlier hour, given that, your hours and your location is the perfect fit for our group.
Food, great, service, fine, atmosphere, wonderful- but … I feel compelled to share that whomever this will concern- the girl at the front door with multicolored hair was very unpleasant- she’s shorter in height, (mostly black in her hair). She is not very friendly and she was projecting an extremely moody interaction towards us for unknown reasons.
We were individually and then collectively caught off guard by her discontentment to be there and to help us with our seating.. mind you that this is our first introduction to Wayfarer when we all walked in .. though it was off putting. WE DID NOT LET IT SET OUR TONE.
I’m the one who found your restaurant- (I was boasting about the menu to them and the reviews that I had read along with the beautiful sights from your windows) .. we had friends in town that we were hosting and it made me feel kind of ‘foolish’ knowing that I might have made a mistake initially. But! That was only our first two or three minutes of being in the restaurant and including when we were finished with our meals & walking out.
This is what happened.
When we walked in, it took an uncomfortable while for her to even look up and say anything to us, to acknowledge us .. we all had these lovely smiles that seemed to strain after awhile, yet when she did look up at us to” help “ it went downhill from there for a few before we were then seated.
We must’ve stood there for an awkward minute or so- just 3 feet from her before she even acknowledged us. She was writing things down in what looked to be a notebook that you take orders with. No smile, no greeting, so we of course patiently waited, she looked up and out came her attitude of what felt like indirect apathy. We experienced a crabby girl whom we seemed to have inconvenienced greatly by us walking in & wanting to enjoy a meal with friends.
I thought to myself “ oh no ..” I felt strongly that I had made a poor choice for dinner. Your Shaemus took care of us after that and he was a gem. He turned our experience around!
We said nothing to him about the front desk experience as we thought we would not see her again. And we only discussed it briefly amongst our selves at dinner- ( we were all checking in to see if that really happened with our greeting). :-(
Shaemus was an attentive server, who was so kind! Very calm energy for us- relaxed & genuine for our group. He really was good to us. Our desserts ‘hit the spot’ as well.
I think it’s important to mention- that for whatever reason- the same girl was there upon us exiting- (it looked like she had been serving tables and just happened to be at the front area for check-in and our leaving possibly) but regardless of if she was a server or a hostess- she was then again not the friendliest on our way out after dinner. It was disappointing.
We were such a quiet group. Very agreeable. We were really so happy to be in eachothers company since we all hadn’t seen one another in awhile. But jeeze. That’s off putting and undeserving as guests, I’m sure you would agree.
Most don’t deserve a sarcastic and an obviously bothered greeting, nor that kind of an insincere, unnecessary farewell either when departing.
Get it together on that end, please. I know that not everyone wants to be where they are in jobs, yet my goodness. Please ask staff to check-in any attitudes that last longer than an hour at the front door when they clock in for their shifts.
Other than that, everybody was professional, helpful and seemed happy to be there. Or at least not angry or annoyed with us.
We will actually return, if you can believe it- simply because we really were treated so much differently by others and so much more dignified than how we were in our “coming and going” of this establishment.
Thank you...
Read moreThis Restaurant...it was our 30th Anniversary, we called one night ahead of time for a reservation for a window seat view. We arrived early to the text message that they had our table -window view ready. We arrived, they sat us one table back from a window table. The people in that table when, we arrived, paid their check around 15 minutes after we arrived. We are thinking the wayfarer staff assumed these people, who ordered chips, salsa and a glad off champagne or wine, were the people we were waiting to check out their check.
They sat us...three more people arrived , they sat those people. We ordered a very expensive meal, for our anniversary, a bottle of wine, appetizer, and waited for ever for our dinner. Filet mignon and prime rib. The second round of patrons received their "beer", dinner salad and cheap meals...while we finished our expensive appetizers. We waited another ,10- 15 minutes for our dinner after the second table of patrons arrived and received their dinner. Still no dinner, for us.
We had enough, left that restaurant...all the manager could say was..."we have alot of people with anniversary's". Why? Why why why didn't they tell us this the night before, when we called WAY ahead of time, to have a table with an ocean view....we may not get it?
I'm sorry but our expensive dinner should not have to pay for cheap skates, ordering salad and cheap beer....for them to have that view. That's what it money pays for....cheap skates having an expensive view ..so they can have cheap beer and salad....we should have kept going down the coast to a true ...venue that appreciates celebrating people's mild stones...vs making a buck on people east to drop money...but not for cheap skates freeloaders. This restaurant.? Yeah I'll be telling all my friends who have a lot of money to drop....at Common Beach.
Signed a once happy couple who trusted what was suppose to be, a Restaurant we thought and talked to about how important, this reservation was-30th Anniversary! Last, I see other bad reviews here...we should have looked at them first. But you can bet we'll be sharing these reviews with our friends who have a lot more money, than cheap beer and dinner salad patrons-...
Read moreWe had reservations for 6:45 pm. There was a long line at the hostess stand bc the hostess would greet, and then call a table and take far too fricking long to seat the party. So we waited in line to check in for our reservation and then waited again for 15 minutes for the table we made reservations for. Just to note we were on time when we checked in. We then were seated in the worst table in the whole dang place (two of looked at the hideous hotel next to it and the other party looked toward the hostess stand…despite us having reservations AND there being several other empty tables with views. The ambiance with no view of the ocean is of the copper penny from the 80’s with 2024 prices. We had beer, fish, and dessert. I had the fish and chips. $37, this better be some legit fish and chips. They arrived and looked like a $14 plate of fish and chips should look with some slaw. Sadly, I tried the slaw and it tasted completely blahhhh. Watery and flavorless in fact. I shared about the Cole slaw with the server and he let us know that 3 other parties complained about it that night. If I pay $37 for a plate of fried food and I was aware the cole slaw was no good I would have let the manager know and sensed it with something else…I expected everything on the plate to be high quality and tasty. Def, not fine dining. And do not try and say you ordered the fish and chips, what should be said is that the restaurant should have been able to make everything on that plate taste amazing. Also, we had the banana foster bread pudding, I was impressed that they made it look unappetizing and the taste was average at best. So we paid for the view…but wait we were seated in the worst seats in the whole dang place which awarded us a big fat check with no justification to walk away feeling okay about the meal. The beer was good but they were $9 a pop, another rip off. Super completely...
