I'm sharing this on behalf of my girlfriend and her friend's experience
I wanted to start of by letting not only the management but the public know that if you are an ethnic person you should not go here. You have to be white, like plain white no seasoning (as reflected in their dishes and their requirements in type of guests). Their server seemed to be the nicest person to all of the non-ethnic groups and provided them with excellent service however from my girlfriend's experience this was not as such...
They left feeling left out and not taken care of as the server barely acknowledged them, did not provide a proper introduction, did not check up on them as they were not happy with the dishes served, and lastly after spilling water on them not even proceed to apologize but did not even grab napkins to help clean up until he was stared down. Don't slam a glass down, you were taught that as an infant...
This is not how service should be, I work in a well known restaurant and we would be baffled if one of ours did this to a guest, ESPECIALLY IF THEY ARE VISITING FROM OUT OF TOWN. (Which you wouldn't know about since you barely spoke to them)
I wish I could give a below 0 review as to how this day unfolded for them. To describe the server, haha server who doesn't even know how to serve a guest, he would be a tall, grey hair, hair tied, and white. I hope this review reaches him, and action is taken. Otherwise I would be really amazed at how management really runs this place. You are in the service industry, whether you're a pub, bar, restaurant or fine dining the service should be a top priority and consistent. Hiring people who do not how to serve is a major let down, and for the server reading this, I hope you find another job where you do not have to interact with people since that is a clear weak point of yours, I hope you work on it. I hope this is a clear wake up call for you and you no longer have to disappointed in yourself when reading this terrible review. Seek help.
If the server continues in the service industry I would suggest having a 1-1 with your manager on better serving tips but even better if you'd like to go above and beyond look at some YouTube videos, there's tons out there and look for "Guest Satisfaction" or "Seeking Help as a Server"
Also learn to seek help so a guest does not have to wait to receive a simple takeout box after 15 mins of asking. And then have to ask again for it to again not be received by you but rather a buss boy...
Absolutely amazed and can't wait to visit soon, I'll teach the guidelines on how to be a better server, maybe I'll be the help you need in life. Trust me it'll do better for your tips.
Oh and the oysters are trash. Wait, the Mac and Cheese too. I learned how to make that in middle school. Kraft Dinner may help?
Or just reduce your prices so the expectation is low to begin...
Read moreLast year on our first trip to Cannon Beach we went to Pelican Brewing and had a wonderful experience. Sat on the patio in the sun/shade, they brought water for the dog, service was great.
Today however was a polar opposite. Seated on the patio again, with the dog. I ordered a Bloody Mary (comes with Titos) for $12. Waitress asked if I wanted a double -- sure. When we got our entrees, my wife's house salad never came. Half-way through the meal, it still wasn't there. I also ordered another Bloody Mary. Towards the end, no salad, so we just canceled it (how long does it take to make a house salad?). Then we got the bill. $52 for 2x double Titos Bloody Marys. I asked the waitress how that math works. If a single Bloody Mary is $12, then at worst a double is $24. 24x2 != 52. She asked, and found out that a SINGLE SHOT of Titos is $14. FOUR-TEEN dollars. So a double Bloody Mary is actually $26 -- but the wait staff doesn't tell you that up front. AND you can get 4x Bloody Mary's, the equivalent of 2 doubles, for $4 less than 2x doubles. I asked for a manager.
Nolan came over with a big smile, extended his hand and said he heard there was a question about the Titos. I explained to him the math, the concept, Pelican's waitress' lack of even explaining that to me. He nodded. Smiled. Said that's Cannon Beach pricing and he couldn't do anything about it. Fine. Its alcohol, always marked up, etc. He also acknowledged that the wait staff should have said something and thanks for letting him know. Shook my hand and took my card and bill.
Moments later, I got it back the same way I handed it to him -- same price. He did ZERO about the situation. Any good manager knows that by simply comping an unhappy customer in a situation like this, as a show of good faith, goes a long way. Especially after acknowledging that this feedback ended up costing your customer a lot more than they intended, let alone $4 more straight up... only to do nothing about it with a smile on your face when you had me my card and bill back is such POOR customer service. Not to mention the salad that never came (we didn't get charged). I'm just floored and I left not wanting to come back.
I hope a senior manager or someone sees this and directs their wait staff to let folks know about the $14/shot, cost of a double, etc for future patrons...
Read moreHad dinner here as a group of 9, on a family trip visiting from out of town.
If you are intending on enjoying a great meal with your family and expect to be treated as appreciated guests I would choose any other restaurant in this town but this establishment. I will make the exception for Madeline, 1/2 servers who served us during our meal. She was the saving grace and the only reason I didn’t choose to take this issue up with management right then and there to really address the unsavoury experience.
It was Labour Day long weekend so understandably the place was packed and they were super busy. We placed our orders but were then informed by another server 2/2 10 mins later they had run out of chowder and tri-tip for the evening given the circunstances. Quite disappointing as we had been waiting for a while to be sat down but nonetheless we understood this was something out of their control. Where it really started to take a turn for the worst was when the appetizers were brought out cold. I politely asked the server if we could have the dish remade. Maybe 2-3 minutes later a “new” one was brought out, it was obvious the dish wasn’t made fresh and probably had been sitting under a light for sometime to be kept warm. As a seafood restaurant that’s located literally by the beach that was disappointing. But what was really appalling was that same server glancing over at her fellow colleague with bleached blonde hair snickering/rolling their eyes and shaking their heads mocking their frustration with us. This other server also continuously discussed her frustrations with her other tables in her section openly at the till with absolutely no regard for professionalism or decency really.
As business owners ourselves and as people who have spent many years working in the restaurant industry this experience was disastrous. We’re all human and have bad days, things can get hectic and you’ll be frustrated at work but if you hate your job so much it still doesn’t make it okay to take it out on patrons who are paying to support the establishment and are simply looking to enjoy a nice meal with...
