Aldi is certainly unique compared to other grocery stores. You might not be able to get everything on your weekly shopping list but they do have great deals on produce and they carry products you won't find at other grocery stores.
The layout is odd and you will probably wander the store several times as there is no rhyme or reason to where things are located in the aisles.
They always have an aisle of odd ball gifts and houseware items that seem so out of place, but I guess that's what makes Aldi unique.
I want to comment on the cart and shopping bag situation as it seems so many people complain about this. If you're a first timer I can see how it can be frustrating to pay a quarter to use a cart or get a bag for your groceries. So, first timers, bring some bags and a quarter for the shopping cart and all is well in your world. Don't worry, you get your quarter back when you return the cart.
This system of charging for bags and having to pay a quarter to use a cart is brilliant! Whether you like it or not you are being trained to be a better human being in a small way. First, you prepare for your trip and bring your own bags and always have a spare quarter with you. This is how they can keep prices lower because they are not spending lots of money on plastic bags that end up in our landfills. You are learning how to recycle and our planet thanks you for it. Second, have you ever seen carts scattered all over the place at Aldi like you see at Wal-Mart and Publix? Nope. Nobody's complaining that people are too lazy to return their carts. Nobody's complaining about the cart parked right next to the front bumper on their car. The reason you aren't complaining is because you return your cart to where you got it. It's funny what a quarter will do to motivate people to return a cart. Every store should adopt this strategy. Lastly, I see people being responsible and kind because of this system. I never see a stray cart in an Aldi parking lot. I see people paying it forward by offering their shopping cart to somebody on their way into the store. Aldi is creating kinder more responsible human beings one quarter at a time. If you can't see the reasoning behind it then keep shopping at Wal-Mart where you see the worst...
ย ย ย Read moreFirst visit will remain last visit to Aldi. The Cape Coral location of Aldi โ at least on the day of my visit there โ did not appear very clean and the overall impression was slightly chaotic with a lot of stuff just lying around randomly. Grapes on the shelf were visible moldy. I took a few things (packages only but no produce items) and left. The cashier was the opposite of friendly; very rushed and rude telling me multiple to times to slide my card; the first time even before she started to scan my items and many times after in a threatening way - even she was not finished scanning all the items. Depending on the final amount I sometimes pay cash but she did not allow me to make this choice. She just threw everything in the cart not bothering to look out for heavier items falling on smaller or breakable ones. Again and again she was asking for me to slide my card and I truly felt harassed by her insistence; I like to watch and see what price comes up when an item is going over the scanner and she did not allow me to do that. Finally however, I noticed that she had charged me for eggs that I did not even have in my basket โ so I must ask: is all that rushing and pressuring of the customer to slide the card a scheme that allows them to put an item or two more on the list while a customer is distracted? Just asking โ however, no further visits to Aldi from us. Nobody wants to spend their hard earned money in a place where they don't respect you as a customer and don't respect the integrity of the...
ย ย ย Read moreWell, should have looked reviews before I shopped. The prices get 5 stars. But if you're unfamiliar, like I was my first visit, its unnerving..the check out process. First, GRAB A CART. When I shop, I seldom use one. I use my bag, pile it in, go to register.( I'll get to that..that's the 3 stars)..I eat organic and rarely buy packaged goods. Nuts I suppose. Very little cheese. I eat grass fed beef, wild fish. cage free eggs. I know the store is limited, but here were only a couple organic greens, plus a couple other things. There were many packaged organic items...but I eat mostly clean. The prices are fantastic. Now, I'm the only one in line..I unloaded my bag, and proceeded to go to where the cart was, at the end..opened my bag so I could put the stuff in. I had maybe 7,8 items...no one behind me in line...she THROWS my stuff in the seat area of the cart...FAST AS HELL. I'm trying to load my bag, inside the cart..and you can see I'm...upset.Throws the strawberries..." What's the matter dear?" She says. I said I didnt know it operated this way. Then she proceeds to tell me why it's less expensive. I'm not dense. I'm too polite to say it's how YOURE THROWING THINGS INTO THE CART...I should have. But that was so unnerving! Next time I'll grab a cart and be better prepared. But I wont buy eggs..they'd...
