I recently bought and engagement ring from Skatell’s and I couldn’t be happier with my purchase or the experience. Like most people buying their first engagement ring, I didn’t start out knowing much. I began by reading everything I could online and I visited every type of store from the large mall chains to the smallest mom-and-pop boutiques in Charleston and a few more major cities. After that exhausting process Skatell’s was an easy choice. Many stores become quickly uninterested in you if they sense that you aren’t ready to pull out your credit card that same day, but Lizzie (the sales associate I worked with) and Jason (the owner) both spent time to show me around and help me learn about my options. They spent the time to build a relationship and even though I don’t live anywhere near Charleston (I’m just working here temporarily) I’ll be coming to them for wedding bands and future purchases. They did wonderful little things like bring out a range diamonds in different carat, color, and clarity options that really helped me understand those differences much better than I did before. I even had a few follow-up questions and they e-mailed back and forth with me. I came in knowing that I wanted to do a lab grown diamond and they worked directly with the supplier to bring diamond options into the store for me to look at. Lab grown diamonds are growing (but still small) part of the market and some jewelers I initially spoke with were quick to show a stigma against them. However, Lizzie and Jason both worked with me from the get-go to really help me find the perfect diamond. I came in with lots of time before my planned proposal date, but I also want to say how quickly they are able to get you a ring. Depending on a few specifics, you really could walk out with your dream ring 24-48 hours after your first visit. I also had them FedEx it to my work address half way across the country which they were happy to do. Skatell’s is an absolute gem. Buying a ring (or any major purchase) can be stressful, but this was a very low-pressure and pleasant experience. The level of customer service is absolutely unparalleled, the price is highly competitive, and the craftsmanship is spectacular. Charleston is lucky to...
Read moreI never leave negative reviews. But, they left us no choice. We purchased my wedding band from there in 2015 and diamonds are already falling out. I dropped my wedding band off on 8/2 to be assessed and they told me, “it just happens with that type of band” and you will have to bring it in every few years to keep it maintained. Unfortunately, no one shared this info when we purchased and that’s half our fault for not realizing it. The problem is the lack of ownership in trying to get this fixed. We also dropped my engagement ring off the same day, that was fixed with no problem. We called a few days later and asked to speak to a manager about some sort of compromise with the band as they were quoting us 1/4 of the cost of the ring to fix a 3 year old ring. (Even a very small %age off at this point would have sufficed and been greatly appreciated). A month after that, we went into the store because we never received that call from the manager, he wasn’t there. We picked up my wedding ring and put in another request and gave them two numbers to reach us. Well, it’s now almost 4 months later and I went into the store today after ZERO phone calls and was told they tried calling us multiple times on 8/2. (We dropped it off on 8/2 and spoke multiple times after that). We really enjoyed shopping there but will be taking our business elsewhere. Really...
Read moreSkatells was wonderful in helping my now-husband pick out my engagement ring. Our review is specifically about Stephani, one of the associates at the West Ashley location (not sure if she works at the others also, but she works at West Ashley most Thursdays!). She was INCREDIBLE from the moment we went in "just to look around" at engagement rings. She taught us all about diamonds (she's a GIA certifier of diamonds so she is VERY knowledgeable- one of the jewelers called her the "diamond snob" of the bunch) and spent so much time with us that day without once pressuring us to buy anything or make any sort of decision. She gave us her card and walked my then boyfriend through every single step, showing him a variety of diamonds, settings, etc to get me the perfect ring. I felt like he was in SUCH great hands, and knew that she would help him find and design the PERFECT ring. She then also helped him to design a custom necklace using a diamond from my grandmother's ring as a wedding gift for me. She was above and beyond anything we could have hoped for. Everyone else at Skatells is always nice and helpful as well, she was just the one who helped us the most! We love...
