Brought our daughter to this mall for the American Girl experience. I decided to browse through Express. Two separate associates lingered around areas where myself, my boyfriend and our daughter were shopping. We didn’t want to assume we were being followed so we continued browsing and once to the back of the store it was apparent. It was extremely uncomfortable so I left without even making my purchase which was all the more upsetting. To the black female associate, you should be ashamed of yourself. You know this experience and I’m confident in that. The big black man walking around in the hoodie with his hat on backwards carrying a big American Girl Doll bag happens to be an elementary school principal. I myself, the black woman with the locs….a licensed mental health clinician. I should not have to explain that to any store associate to be seen as a “buying customer”. If I could rate this store lower than a one star I would. The employees who work there look terrified of their manager, Mariah, who is treating them like garbage. I guess their GM is ok with that. Most other stores wouldn't let that fly. All she seems to do is give them more work when she lags around doing nothing and saying to other employees not to stand around. While girls are doing their best to handle guests and the basic maintenance of the store.
