We stayed a night in Cody and went to the rodeo. It was a great, authentic, professional rodeo and as the sign says Cody is the rodeo capital of the world. We were there on a night of professional bull riding and bull fighting. The riders were the best in the world which made for a very eventful night. We loved hanging out with the WY locals enjoying a great night in cowboy country. We also appreciated the announcer who expressed our right to freedom of religion, and not freedom from religion. This proceeded a nice prayer thanking God for the many blessing he bestows.
One key thing to note though. The grandstands have open gaps between the seats and flooring throughout. So when you come in through the entrance gates, many of the concessions are under a portion of the grandstands. While my sister-in-law was standing there, a vendor selling red bull in the grandstands above dropped one that came speeding down through a gap in the grandstands and hit her hard in the head. She tried to shake off the shooting pain and dizziness that night, but had to go to the hospital in the morning. The same vendor dropped another can a few moments later but luckily that one did...
Read moreWe came all of the way from Florida and made this one of our “must see” attractions because of the fun we had years ago. We paid for our family of five as I wanted my kids to see this, too. But when we got there, all we got were a bunch of teens, 3 and 8-year olds and some older guys who couldn’t even stay on the bull or horse. Hardly anyone qualified. Oh, and there were more cowgirls than cowboys. They kept missing their rope work and it was a complete waste of time. They kept talking about how these people were here training. I think what was going on was that the participants of this rodeo paid big bucks to get trained because they are amateurs but the rodeo decided to charge us full price. That is not right. They should have warned us that these were amateurs who can’t even do basic rodeo work. I also didn’t appreciate the so-called Christian announcer telling off-color jokes about female anatomy. It is a bad witness and also improper for the family setting with kids in the audience. Very disappointing!!! I would have rather spent the evening going to some other attraction during our very...
Read moreRodeo is fun, BUT some individuals on the board running the place are not polite. In particular, Mr. Mike Darby. Let me explain, first starting with some background. I am a professor at a top university, an engineer, I have an accent from Italy, but speak fluent and clear English. I am a conservative also. The day after the rodeo, we wanted to ask permission to fly a drone over the arena, to take pics/videos for family memories. As good citizens we called for permission and were connected with Mr. Darby. His demeanor over the phone was just short of rude and insulting. He repeatedly said “I cannot understand you”, sounding annoyed. Typical behavior that gives conservative areas of the country a bad name. Also very smart (sarcasm), given the almost empty arena they have for the rodeo. Cody could use some people in charge with...
