I'm from PA and our ALDIs at home were small and kind of dark. This is big and bright. Make no mistake, it's still an Aldi so it feels like a warehouse but the selection of fruit, veggies and baked goods is astounding. If you are not familiar with Aldi there are some insider tricks. First, you will need a quarter to get a cart. You get it back when you return your cart. Aldi doesn't have people to go collect carts from the parking lot. It keeps prices down and lets them pay cashiers a living wage. Second, do not go in with a detailed list. You will only frustrate yourself. There are some things that are fabulous but not always there. I recommend getting the app and seeing what is coming up on sale and planning accordingly. Third. Enjoy the experience. They have the "Aisle of Shame". It has just incredible bargains with things you don't usually find at a grocery store. Clothes, exercise gear, toys etc. If there is something you want from the ad, get there early Wednesday mornings. There were plush blankets the other day and it was like a rock star was signing autographs. Fourth, start thinking like you're French. Buy meat and cook it within two or three days. They are not pumped full of preservatives and sometimes don't last as long as you're used to. I don't think the organic produce is worth the extra money but you do you, boo. Fifth, BRING YOUR OWN BAGS!!! If you forget your bags, they have great reuseable bags for sale for a buck. You can also grab empty boxes as you go through the store. When you check out, the cashier will put your groceries into another cart and you move to a shelf area and bag or pack your groceries.
You will save money on food. You may make up for it by buying stuff you hadn't planned on, but you can...
Read moreNot all Aldi stores are created equal. This store was a huge disappointment. I frequently visit the location on Ironbridge in Chesterfield, which is always spotlessly clean with amazing produce. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for the Colonial Heights location.
We were in the area and needed to grab a few items, but still ended up having to make a trip somewhere else because half of the items I needed were rotting, growing mold or even expired! The peppers, blueberries and strawberries we're inedible. Two different types of artisanal cheese had an expiration date of 2 or more months prior to my visit. Bagged potatoes were growing eyes. The store itself was in disarray - dirty floors, empty boxes everywhere. No one seemed to care about maintaining anything in the store.
Cashier was friendly and efficient but not enough to ever bring me back to...
Read moreGood food, prices, but unfortunately terrible managers?? I used to go there every 3 days a week to get food for my lunch break at work and each time i went there .. 1 cashier Open.. always 1 .. other 5 are just there for the looks and always closed.. then foods sell out .. it takes months to restock. I asked so many times when their shipping day is and they say "everyday" but thats not true because i even went to check the next day IN THE MORNING and nothing came in. Obviously the managers need to be replaced im not sure what they are doing to be honest . Imean running a decent grocery shop with 1 cashier and things going out of stock for more than 3 weeks and some items more than many months. I stopped going there. Im going to start going to publix...
