I love shopping at Meijer, and I'm a loyal customer to their stores; however, this store is very "meh."
We moved from Westerville to Hilliard, and it's been maybe 5 years since I've stepped foot in the Hilliard-Rome Meijer. I was sort of disappointed, because I remember it being a really nice Meijer back then. Now, it's extremely difficult to determine whether they're renovating or closing down. It makes the store look bad.
I shop at Meijer because it's clean, well put together, and definitely not a store that looks trashy or unkempt. However, whatever they're doing in this Meijer makes it look bad. The department store section is nearly gone, everything is missing and everything's on clearance/sale. Not that I don't like sales, but when you have most of a section of a store just gone... it looks bad and leaves a certain impression behind.
If you go to the Polaris Meijer it's really nice, clean, and exactly what you'd expect shopping in Polaris. The same thing at the Dublin Meijer, so what's going on with this Meijer? If they are just renovating, I understand it... but it looks really bad and makes me not want to shop there again.
I'll take my business to Dublin or Polaris until they figure out what they're doing and actually make an effort to keep their store well maintained.
ETA 5/7/17: Turns out shortly after writing this review they posted signs saying they were renovating and they were sorry for the mess. The store is nearly done from the looks of it on the inside and it looks great! I love the single entrance and the layout of the store so far.
I do wish it was a bit brighter inside the store. I feel like their lights are a bit dim compared to some other Meijer's.
Overall, I have continued to go there and will continue to, now that I know they were just giving the store...
Read moreI used to be a HUGE Meijer fan until the last year or so. The store is constantly out of staples, and worse yet, seems to be perfectly content selling expired food. It got so bad that I found myself needing to check the expiration date on EVERYTHING I get from there, because often times, over half of what I bought was past its shelf life or best by dates. The pharmacy has also mismanaged prescriptions on multiple occasions, ranging from not filling by promised dates, or even marking refills as "in progress" only to deny that any sort of request was ever made, once you show up to pick it up.
If you wander around long enough, chances are you'll hear customer satisfaction scores being broadcast over the PA. I really feel for those poor employees, because it seems like Meijer is more concerned with being good on paper, versus actually being good.
Case in point--the little survey that pops up on the pin pad after you finish self checkout. This often asks if the store was clean, if you were greeted, if you had a good experience, etc. and gives you a couple of options (if I recall correctly, yes, no, and neutral).
Go to self checkout and see how many times the rep asks you to "hit the green button" when you're done. No, they don't say "please take our survey", it's literally "HAND OVER YOUR 'YES' RATINGS OTHERWISE THIS EMPLOYEE MIGHT BE WORKING THEIR LAST SHIFT HERE".
Like I said, I used to LOVE Meijer and never even dream of setting foot inside another supermarket unless out of absolute necessity. I don't know why or how it got so scuzzy and low-quality, but it sure...
Read moreI'm not sure if meijer is aware that a portion of their business is contingent on deliveries thru 3rd party apps(like shipt). So some people enter the store as personal shoppers to complete this transaction and get the groceries to the individual. I sincerely hope that these shoppers are paid hourly. Rather then based on number of orders completed(we're not hourly). The lack of staffing causes orders to fall behind directly reflecting the personal shoppers causing these individuals to lose money in addition to potentially losing out on that job/Side gig. We waited 49 minutes at the bakery counter waiting to pick up an order for a customer. When we inquired as to why the delay we were informed it was due to staffing shortages. It sounds like as a company meijer needs to seriously reevaluate wages/employee expectations. It's not just this store, it's most of them. Increased wait times, can't find staff, at times poor stocking.
How about we just pay a better wage and address what are probably toxic leadership/management issues so we can atleast pretend to care about customers. But that would require a dip into profit margins and dear God we wouldn't want that to happen.
Long story short, unless you enjoy waiting forever or possibly not even being assisted while you attempt to locate things that aren't stocked or waiting in an order in the bakery they probably...
