I visited this evening to get everything I needed for my daughter’s birthday, which is tomorrow. I went to customer service to ask if someone could help me get a couple balloons. There were 2 people behind the desk. When I asked for help, the 2 people looked at each other, then one made a phone call.
The man on the phone spoke to someone, then asked me when the balloons were for, and I said I had some shopping to do but wanted to leave with them. He spoke to the person on the phone, and said it’s better if you place the order ahead of time. I expressed that wasn’t an option for me unfortunately. He spoke to the person on the phone, and asked how many balloons I need, I said 5-6. He spoke to the man on the phone, then asked me what the balloons were for, I said what does that matter? He spoke to the man on the phone, and said it was his night shift manager, and his manager says it’s better if you get balloons closer to the event so that they don’t deflate. At this point the conversation had been going on for a minute while he talked to someone else and it was obvious they weren’t going to help me. I told him I’ll just go somewhere else, he interjected mildly, to which I said I’ll just take my business elsewhere and be on my way. And I left.
I was being very polite. I’m on my way home and I want to have balloons for my daughter’s birthday when she wakes up in the morning for school. She is turning 8. I don’t think this event requires a detailed description of my intentions or needs 12 questions answered to justify my purchase. There were 2 people standing behind the CUSTOMER SERVICE desk, plus someone on the phone. Between the 3 of them, one which was a manager, they refused to help, when the store didn’t close for 4 hours on a Sunday evening.
We stopped coming here years ago. It’s gotten much more expensive than all other stores. But I do return to get a few things like balloons or if I’m on my way home from work occasionally. Between Costco & Target, we get everything for a cheaper price and a better quality. Now I can never come back. Just wanted to do some shopping and get a birthday balloon for my daughter. It was ridiculous. Don’t advertise this service if you are going to treat customers poorly who request it.
I was pretty upset. 3 people refused to help me do something that was a small task. I was not rude, but this store deserves a bad review based on terrible customer service, at the customer service desk. It was rude and like a joke....
Read moreUpdated 5-7-2022: I am progressively disappointed by this store in particular. The produce is frequently rotten or in poor shape, critical common items are often missing so it's hard to make a functional shopping list in advance. In 2018 I switched from using the Collegeville Wegman's to the one in Glen Mills due to a relocation. Immediately it was clear that the quality management was worse at Glen Mills. In addition, over the past few years Wegman's has downgraded quality in order to increase their profit margins (it started with the pizza! which I used to love). The common tactic they use is to reduce produce size at first (pay same price for a smaller size), then they raise the price later (pay more for less). I don't really even mind paying more if the quality was maintained, but it generally is not.
Wegmans has shifted towards pre-chopped vegetables, pre-made salads, ready-to-cook meals, etc... pivoting towards higher profit margins. Take a good look at this stuff before buying; it's frequently rotten. I also don't find the expiration date to be useful.
If you want good quality produce, go to Whole Foods; prices are similar but better quality. If you want good value (quality/price ratio) go to Trader Joe's or Aldi. Wegmans, however, is generally a lose-lose.
There are a few areas where Wegman's is good. Their meats are usually good (but seafood is frequently questionable). Also, non-perishable times are ok, and Wegman's tends to have a diverse selection here.
Wegman's used to be my favorite place to shop; sad to see the bean counter's have taken over and compromised the chain's original value proposition (quality you couldn't get...
Read moreAbsolutely love Wegmans Supermarket. Over the years shopped al all of their PA establishments, my favorite is Concordville.... Love it. HOWEVER, the need to STOP providing bags is insane. First off, I shop at Trader Joe's and have my choice FREE of plastic or paper. At least their paper bags which are FREE hold up very well. Over the weekend, I purchased about 10 items at Wegmans (very small trip for me). Forgetting about the bag inconvenience, I had to pay for a paper bag. The BAG BROKE as I lifted it to put it in my car and ALL my groceries fell on the ground. I cannot imagine what my normal Wegmans shopping is going to entail when I spend my normal $200. At least Aldi provides boxes ... This inconvenience is going to limit my items purchased at Wegmans. It is NOT saving on the environment at all as now I have to buy PLASTIC garbage bags as I did reuse every single bag from Wegmans... so how is it saving the plastic use I have NO CLUE. It is only a huge inconvenience as well as a deterrence to purchase my products from Wegmans as much as I absolutely love the store and Wegmans products. Placing 200 items in my CAR or re-usable bags is quite an issue. I can see if it was like a trip to Aldi or Trader Joes for a bag or two........ Love the environment - but this is NOT helping it for me at all. Stop using paper towels for example... many other...
