I went there yesterday with my son to rent a tux for the prom. We eventually left and rented the tux at Bethesda Custom Tailors, where the price was better and we did not feel manipulated into upgrading to more expensive options.
One issue that we had was that at Men's Wearhouse, pricing is deceptive. Although tuxedo rental packages do come with all components included (shirt, shoes, tie, vest), an additional mandatory fee raises the price. A $99.99 package featuring a "regular cut" tux costs around $140 when this fee (plus taxes) is taken into account. By contrast, at Bethesda Custom Tailors, the only "extra" is taxes.
Many attempts were made to get us to upgrade to a much more expensive "slim-fit" package "that the guys like better." We were offered a $40-off coupon. It turns out, though, that $40 off did not actually apply to the tuxedo packages that were available. If we had upgraded to the slim-fit package with the cost of "$184," the $40-off coupon would have reduced the price-before-fee to $174, a $10 saving. That's because, as explained to me, "$184" was already a discounted price from the sticker price of the rental tux.
Other attempts to get us to upgrade included (1) Staff spoke very disparagingly of tuxedos that were "regular" fit. (2) staff gave my son a "regular fit" to try on that was at least one size too big. It was laughably huge: he looked like he was wearing a giant trash bag. Even the shirt was baggy. The reason we are renting for prom instead of using my son's serviceable concert tuxedo that we bought for him four years ago is because as his figure has changed the concert tuxedo jacket, also regular fit, has become baggy. The Men's Wearhouse sample tux was orders-of-magnitude baggier. Unfortunately, I did not check the size of the sample tux or the measurements that the sales associate wrote down. I wish that I had. But as I said, the tux was laughably huge.
The grossly oversized sample tux could possibly have resulted from a big measurement error on the store's part (which is in itself a reason to be cautious when ordering from Mens Wearhouse), but I am thinking that it was part of the hard sell on slim fit.
I do not know if the claim is true that tuxedo trousers are designed to fit three sizes and that my son's 33'' waist put him at the bottom end of that range of sizes. That was the explanation for how incredibly baggy the pants were.
Prices at Mens Wearhouse are not a better deal than prices elsewhere. Selection is nothing special. ...

When we went in for initial measurements and fittings we were consistently doubted as to what our suit/tuxedo sizes when asked so what's the point of even asking? It's like they were trying to make us we like we didn't know what we were talking about and them know everything and that we should fully trust them. One of the associates sales pitch was so bad at the end it was like he was trying to sing a song at the end or he wouldn't remember what he had to say. When we finally went in for final fittings and pick-ups before the wedding either shirt or jacket sleeves were too short or long and pants were too tight or loose or even missing (damaged during shipping they say). When we made comments about the fit and the alterations that we believed needed to be made we were met with a simple "oh that the way it should fit or they don't make it in that size." When we commented about shirt sleeve exposure length the manager simply pointed to a picture and said "that's the style you want right" which looked nothing like we had gotten. It was as if any attempt on our part to have changes or alterations made was too much to ask for as was simply met with a "that's the way it is." As many suits as I've purchased or had tailor made before, I also feel that the rental prices are high for the quality of product and service we got. I don't believe anyone on the grooms side of the bridal party were completely pleased with the outcome of the rentals. Even the groom's tuxedo had issues. I would honestly never shop there again and the only reason I/we went this time was because that's where bridal party...
Read moreThis was the most bizarre experience I’ve ever had. My fiancé and I walked into this store becaue he wanted to purchase a suit for our wedding. We were approached by a salesman who appeared nice at first but when my fiancé tried on the suit and it wasn’t the color he wanted , the salesman pushed for him to make the purchase instead of allow us to continue browsing. I informed the salesman that there was another suit my husband had tried on at another store and we were looking to buy something in that color but more fitted. The previous suit was a modern fit and he wanted a slim fit. So the salesman insisted and stated “we’re marking this one” I asserted myself and simply stated “no” and he said in a loud and aggressive manner “were making this one” . Many people stopped to look at what was happening ... I honestly was confused as to why we were being pressured to agree to a suit we were unsure of. My fiancé was very taken aback and did not like this salesman’s tone. As my fiancé gave this man a look, the salesman said “nothing happening... just buy the suit”. However, my fiancé is more nicer and will not necessarily say something when he doesn’t like it... eventually I had to get a little more stern and say we were not going to buy the suit and we wanted to see other options. It was very weird , the salesman lowered his tone and then attempted to be overly hospitable. Very unprofessional, aggressive, and straight up bizarre behavior from this salesman.
Will not...
