The Home Depot, a large home improvement retailer, has faced a few controversies over the years. Here are a few notable examples:
Data Breach: In 2014, Home Depot experienced a significant data breach that impacted approximately 56 million payment card accounts. The breach occurred when cybercriminals gained access to the company's network and installed malware on their payment systems, compromising customers' personal and payment information.
Employee Safety: Home Depot has faced criticism regarding the safety of its employees. In 2012, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) cited the company for multiple safety violations, including inadequate training and failure to provide proper equipment, following a fatality of an employee in a forklift accident.
Environmental Impact: Home Depot has faced criticism for its environmental practices. Some concerns have been raised regarding their sourcing of lumber from unsustainable forests or suppliers engaged in illegal logging.
Consumer Fraud Allegations: Home Depot has been subject to allegations of consumer fraud. In 2017, a class-action lawsuit claimed that the company had misled customers by selling flooring products labeled as "Bamboo" when they were actually made from cheaper materials, such as processed bamboo. The lawsuit alleged false advertising and violation of consumer...
Read moreThey sold us chinese laminate flooring over a year ago that certified laboratory tested and came back sky high in formaldyehyde off gassing 3 separate times and took H.D. took 7 mos. for to decide to refund the purchase with lots of red tape & unecessary delay in order for us to prevail. We had to get an industrial air purifier to make the home livable after indoor air-pollutants triggered serious asthma symptoms in remission for over 40 years. They are still selling that specific flooring! I shop there begrudgingly now only because they have no local competitor. An update, error made not 5 stars, 1 star at best. It turns out the contractor who attempted to install high end padding & toxic laminante pieced padding incorrectly leaving large gaps between them allowing for massive seepage potential. After we pointed outerror he begrudgingly said he'd correct but did half _ _ _ job. Also, installed padding with staples instead of special tape purchased and cut padding on perfectly good, high end linoleum and left numerous long cut marks and chips of linoleum flooring discovered after we had to de-install laminant. Sloppy, careless install. I'm left with a totally marred floored with no compensation for poor workmanship. Lost alot of confidence in Home Depot and their reluctance to own up to carrying defective products and then still...
Read moreHome Depot is the only big box home improvement store in my town and they sure act like it. Nearly every time I visit my local HD, the staff seem to ignore the customers except to give them bunk information about their products. I've observed many of them standing around talking to one another and have lost my patience numerous times with the lackadaisical service they provide (I purchase items for HD for work as well). During a recent visit, I asked for assistance with some mini-blinds (needed them custom cut to fit a window). The sales associated told me he could help after he helped another customer. I'm normally a patient person (despite experiencing poor service at HD in the past), so I waited and walked around the mini blind section for about ten minutes. During this time, I didn't see another sales associated in the department to ask for help. Then I walked back over to where the sales associate was before and he was kicked up on a carpet roll shooting the breeze with the customers. To me, waiting for 10 minutes for help is unacceptable unless you're at the DMV. My plan was to get in and make my seemingly simple purchase, and get out. I ended up leaving empty handed after being blown off. I'd be better off driving to the next town to go to Lowes, or driving clear to Eugene to go to Jerry's just to receive up to par...
