I love this place for the food and the price. All the reviews are right about them needing to really really really figure it out as far as customer service though. They seem to have a huge problem figuring out how to expedite things during the pandemic. It's actually pretty easy. All you have to do is have two people running the front of the house. The person comes in to pay and give you their name and then gets out. When an order is ready, someone goes out and finds the person and gives them their order. I really don't know why you don't do this, but you need to. I don't know if it's because of trying to keep labor costs down or what, but it is basically inexcusable at this point. I would go here a whole lot more often, but I don't want to deal with waiting outside while a bunch of people are waiting inside and outside and all I need to do is pick up my order but I can't because people are just standing inside while their food gets packaged instead of waiting outside and somebody brings it to them. I know that we should all be patient while everybody figures this out, but everybody else did figure it out. This isn't trying your best anymore, this is just bad business. This is still my favorite sushi place in Corvallis by far. I am so happy that you guys are here, but disappointed with a never-ending revolving door of new front office people who get worked way too hard, can't take orders and deal with customers and take out the food by themselves, and just quit. Just hire two people to work the front of the house. I apologize if you have finally done this, but I haven't been there in a couple of months. Every time I think of going, I remember the hassle about picking it up and I just as soon walk to somewhere else where I can eat outside or who has figured out how to take my money and then give me my food. I'll be happy to update my review if and when you guys figure this out and I will be...
Read moreBeen here several times so I have the authority now to write a review.
Pros: First of all I've been here several times so obviously there's things to like. Even though it's 'conveyor belt sushi' it's still decent enough. The prices are normal for this sort of place. I enjoy the food every time I get takeout here.
Cons: BIGGEST COMPLAINT? When you slide your card in, the server holds up the ipad and asks you if you want to tip. I get that it's to prevent customers touching the screen and spread germs and whatever, but this really incredibly irks me. Tipping is already very guilt-inducing, and for the server to hold the tip form in their hands and ask if you want to tip, it's almost impossible not to. It's like if a server is watching you fill out the tip form, that level of guilt? Amplify that by 5x when they are holding the form and asking you directly. I really disagree with that. Tipping should be a private act and not scrutinized like that. A better solution would be to leave you be with the tip form and then sanitize the screen afterwards. They have plenty of safe disinfectant wipes or alcohol wipes that are fine to use on it.
overall, it's what you expect from a conveyor belt/fast sushi place. Decent sushi for relatively cheap prices (although some other conveyor belt places are a bit cheaper). Service is quick enough. Only thing I can really harp on is how they handle customers filling out tips. It honestly dissuades me from going more, just because I know it's going to be a massive guilt-trip at the end when they hold up the tipping screen and look you in the eyes. I'm positive other customers there will agree with me that filling out a tip form is...
Read moreThis was my favorite restaurant in town until I got sticker shock today when I came in. Prices increased (in my mind) dramatically and after reading other reviewers’ comments it seems that the reason is because of new ownership. Disappointed. Really soured my experience plus one of the waitresses wasn’t very helpful or professional. Thankfully the other that was there was really attentive and helped make my visit a bit better. The food was still good, but I had to ask for some of the fried items to be heated up again because they went soft from sitting out too long and there were a lot of the higher priced items on the belt. I eventually had to place an order for a few of the lower priced items. The new menu was confusing to follow as some of the food wasn’t grouped together with similar priced items so I gave up hunting around for what was new/old compared to the previous menu (and there wasn’t a key that outlined what the symbols for the raw and vegetarian items were—you can make an educated guess, but I was surprised that it wasn’t explicated stated). Again, disappointed. A lot of the fun in going to the old Sugoi Sushi was knowing the food was at a great price, matching up the items on the belt to the pictures on the menu, and eating without too much of a care. With the new Sugoi Sushi I sadly don’t feel I can enjoy any of those. New customers may disagree with me, but this old customer remembers...
