After recently moving to New York City, it became my sole mission to find a barber who would not just cut my hair, but that I would enjoy seeing time and time again and feel welcomed in their chair. After my initial cut, I was more than impressed but remained curious as to what else the city had to offer. After soliciting no less than five other barbers, I found myself happily, and a bit desperately, booking an appointment at Craftsman Barbershop because I needed someone to boldly cut my hair and provide a service that exceeded my expectations. They listen, they cater, and they deliver. The atmosphere at Craftsman Barbershop is welcoming and nostalgic of the bond you create with your barber; an intimate relationship if you will. Honestly probably one of the worst haircuts I’ve gotten. I hate to make this a race thing but i think this place either not used to cutting asian hair or is subconsciously discriminating against asians. Ive been getting haircuts for decades across the entire world and i don’t think I’ve experienced something like this before. Guy who cut my hair wasn’t even particularly nice, i told him exactly what i wanted and he just totally disregarded what i asked for (mid fade - mind you) and he ends up straightening my entire sides out all the way to the top without bothering to ask or confirm with me. I mentioned to him multiple times throughout the cut and he was pretty dismissive and responded like “he knows better” except at the end of the day, my haircut looks like shit. Steve. Steve. and Steve. Stumbled on Craftsman Barbershop on google. I was attending a wedding in SOHO and wanted to have my beard cleaned up. Steve also took a few minutes to fix the botched haircut I got from another place. My beard can be a bit tricky to deal with but Steve couldn't have done a better job. I showed him a photo of what I wanted it to look like and it was SPOT ON. Steve is kind, respectful, and incredibly talented. He understands old school and current trends.
