I have been taking our cats to Dr. Hugo for over 5 years and wanted to address some things I see in several negative reviews. But first the positives:
He is hands down the best cat veterinarian in the area. I have been to several vets and while many of them were good vets; none had the in depth knowledge or options of care/treatment on cats that he does. Every time we have taken ours cats there he has always taken his time to thoroughly examine our cats, explain in detail his observations and answer all questions very thoroughly. Meaning he has never rushed appointments like a few reviews said.
Which brings me to my next point regarding the negative reviews. I don't know if these are fake reviews or competitors putting up negative reviews but Dr. Hugo has never been concerned about making money off his patients, rushing visits or been cold/uncaring towards cats. Let me give you two examples. The first is related to cats he owns. Through our conversations over the years I learned that him and his wife only adopt special needs cats as pets because they are the least adopted and require the most amount of care. Does that sound like someone who doesn't care about cats?
Second is a personal story. A few years back our cat was dying of cancer. Dr. Hugo was not available for a last minute appointment so we took our cat to our backup vet. After seeing the backup vet and a specialist we still wanted a 3rd opinion from Dr. Hugo because of how much we trust him. Unfortunately he was still completely booked. I asked the receptionist if I could just have a phone consultation with him because we had to make a life or death decision regarding our cat very soon. He got on the phone immediately and proceeded to spend over 15 minutes going over in detail what he thinks of the diagnosis, what we should do and how the disease came to be.
Unfortunately he told us the same thing as the other two vets. We had to put our cat down. However, he told us something that neither of the other two did. He explained the medical side of the disease in such a way that it helped me to make peace with our cats death. At the end of the consultation I offered to give him $100 (he only charges $50 for a full examination of a cat which takes a lot longer then 15 minutes) for taking the time out of his busy schedule to talk to me. He said it was not necessary and that he was extremely sorry that he had to give us bad news. Also, from the tone of his voice I could tell that he truly felt saddened about our cat passing away soon. Now does that sound like a vet that only cares about money? I think the...
Read moreExeptional cat vet. The only doc that I'd recommend to cat owners. My cat had a seemingly uncurable disease as diagnosed by another prominent veterinarian establishment. They gave my cat antibiotics and told me that it would clear up her lesions, but they were wrong. I wasted money and my cat was miserable. But it all changed the moment I walked into Cat Hospital. The staff and doc were very caring and right away gave me a diagnosis he thought was most likely and easiest to cure. He was right and my cat is healthy and no more...
Read moreWas willing to try him out because of the good reviews here. Call about our cat of 18 years dying and the dr was very cold and short seemed to only be concerned if we had enough money to afford his services (which we do). But I don't want our family member feeling the type of vibe in her last breath. Every interaction matters doctor, even a phone call with potential clients . Maybe he was having a bad day but someone calling about there dying family member should create some empathy but maybe that's only for people that have been paying...
