Trailfitters — Local services in Duluth

I am fortunate to work near this store, and have spent way too much time browsing. The prices are higher than you'd pay while trawling eBay, but generally very close to what you'd pay at REI or Midwest Mountaineering (that is, somewhere between MSRP and ~10% off), but this is offset by the fact that many of the staff are very knowledgeable on the products they sell as well as their use.

They generally are willing to be honest and practical- they'll tell you that a $400 sleeping bag probably is overkill for your first weekend car camping trip. This is a lot different than what you usually see at places like REI, which are always pushing the upsell.

My only complaint is that I wish they carried more Granite Gear packs. I was recently in the market for a new pack, and ended up ordering it online. A trip was coming up soon and my options were ordering it online or waiting 2-3 weeks for the special order to arrive at Trailfitters. I would have bought it there if the wait wasn't so long, or they had something similar in stock. Very good selection of Osprey packs and a few Granite Gear packs,...

Want to give a shout out to Trailfitters. I've been looking for hiking boots from a local business. I went to three different stores only to be told they either didn't have my size or had a limited selection. I called Trailfitters to find out they had anything my size. They assured me they did so I went there. When I got there they had pulled 5 different pairs of boots in a variety of brands. I was so excited, I didn't have to settle, I got the perfect pair and I love them. I took them for their first hike down by the lake - wore them right out...

Had the best experience here! Went in looking for a travel backpack and found an entire wall with different brands, styles and colour. Huge thank you to John who spent the time helping us find the perfect bag. From measuring heights, showing us how to adjust the bag and even adding in some weight to give us the best representation of how the bag works. He was extremely knowledgeable, and made us feel validated with my 1000 questions.

Would highly recommend this shop for any clothing/ outdoor needs.
