We visited Fido's Pawsome gifts on September 4th, around 3pm and had a horrible experience with the cashier. I usually do not write these sorts of reviews, as I have been in retail management before and know how stressful it can be, but this was an exception. We were looking at the memorial gifts, and the cashier had started talking to us about how it doesn't matter how long you've had a pet, they're still family. I agreed, and shared with her that we had a beloved pet rat that recently passed away. She had a brain tumor, and survived a stroke before passing away. The employee went silent for a moment and said 'Oh, I've never heard of anyone having a rat before. Only to kill and feed to a snake.' I didn't say anything, as this was incredibly insensitive and rude. Losing a pet is traumatic whether the pet is a cat, a dog, or a rodent. She clearly didn't catch on to the fact that she was being cruel with her choice of comment, but then made it a lot worse by adding 'I know people keep them until they're fat or big enough to make a decent meal.' I quickly bought my t shirt and left. I wish we had never stopped, this is quite possibly the worst retail experience I've ever had.
Please teach some compassion to your workers. I understand that pet care differs by species, like snakes, but this was a horrible thing to say to someone about their...
Read moreCustomer service was not great. The two women working starred at us from a distance the whole time. It was very uncomfortable and awkward. Finally one of them asked if we were looking for anything in particular and I said I was taking pictures to promote their business on Google. End of discussion. No, "OK, let me know if you need anything." And no pleasant, "goodbye, come again!" as we left. Seemed very inexperienced in making the customer feel welcome and serving them holistically. But maybe they were just weirded out that I was taking pictures of everything? Either way definitely an area for improvement and something a manager or owner should be aware of as they continue to grow as a business.
The store was very well kept and laid out comfortably. I was impressed with their selection of interactive food bowls for dogs with high energy and active minds. They had a lot of unique gift ideas for dog lovers which was fun! I would consider going back around Christmas time! I wish them all the best and hope their employees have some training on...
Read moreI am so grateful that folks invest their love into spaces like this one. It was so refreshing to have a lovely interaction with a gentleman who was willing to not only educate me on the various types of collars and their purposes but was also willing to fit my little pooch with the proper gear. My little grown Cavalier likes to pull the leash so intensely on her walks that she chokes herself no matter how much slack I allow her. The gentleman at A Place for Fido helped me through my guilty lack-of-training self talk and assured me that there is a way through! I left with a perfect harness, a beautiful hand-crafted leash, and a few other accoutrements to make me smile. I highly recommend skipping the big box joints and heading down to Fitgers to check out this place...
