Do not go to the facility in Allen TX. Most do not know what is happening inside this club and have the right to know as a member. The management is the worst I've seen. Clif seems to try for the Kids Club, but is all talk and no action. Promises toys and materials will be purchased and never follows through. There is little formal training for Highschool graduates and up and no support. They are CPR trained and work hard, but are treated horribly. No set schedules and management never seems to know what they are doing or how to schedule correctly. They have the childcare worker fill out an incident report but then never follow up on them. That is the point of a report. Your children are not safe here. If reports are not followed by an action of suspension, a child or children, who should not be there will eventually hurt your child. There are no separate areas for different ages, even though it has been suggested to make a separate infant area. It also has never been followed up. Lately, there was a wrongful termination, in my opinion. A boy, who loved working with the children and they loved him, was let go because a fight happened and they said he did not react quickly enough. 3 people in an area and he is the only one let go. At the time, and it is on tape, he was holding a child and verbally telling the children to stop. When it definitely was getting worse, he put the child down, he and the attendant behind the desk, got between them and an incident report was written. 3 people and they were the only one's who reacted but he was let go. Why? That's hard to know, but you don't see a lot of boys working in the Kids Club area do you? Think about it. He was humiliated and told to go to the Child center to let the other worker know he had to leave and why in front of the children. This is a managers job. The other person involved in this incident...well she was there somewhere? She says bathroom but the incident was 15 minutes long according to management. Why has she not been fired for either not being at her area or ignored the situation completely?? So a person, who did react, is let go. Seem wrong? It gets worse. The missing girl in this incident has also had other issues, but is somehow still there. She is either late or doesn't show up. She even text her manager that she partied too much and that is why she wasn't there that morning. She brought razor blades into work that were confiscated by her manager. She has left crying numerous times, left work early for cramps, witnessed sleeping while working and has had headphones in her ears. Hard to hear the children that way? Yet, somehow this person still remains employed? How? Nobody has any idea. But a very hard working boy is told to leave after one incident when others were there as well. He's told he hasn't reacted before. This is not true and never has had a verbal or written warning prior to this incident. Wrongful termination? I absolutely believe so. Now on to outside the Child Center. The new manager and a new membership sales person were investigated and found guilty for not following protocol with members accounts. In fact, not legal. Yet, they are still there? There is no cohesive atmosphere. Rarely does the front desk want to help out the child center when needed, and lack of support in all areas in regards to management. There are many reports on this site about member fees and that is also an issue at this club as well. Now back to the Main focus..knowing what you do now, do you feel safe leaving your children in an area that is not backed up by management? The rest of the child care staff are working hard and writing reports that go ignored. If you would like a safe environment, play equipment, a separate infant area and toys, let management...
Read moreI really want to like this gym. I’m not a fan of posting negative feedback but others deserve a level of transparency that is/was otherwise not available to me when meeting with the very limited staff to sign up. It’s my 2nd round of annual membership at this location, 4th round with 24HR Fitness in general, and there is a stark difference from my first time to now in the level of cleanliness, equipment maintenance and/or even equipment upgrades (Where does my, and everyone else’s, annual $60 fee even go if not directly into the pockets of the owner - very disappointing). Having limited options in Allen, TX I ended up back here again but am left with much to desire having trained at several other 24HR Fitness locations in DFW, Austin, Denver etc and seen significantly better managed facilities there. Compound that with having been training for 20+ years, I’ve seen gym quality on both ends of the spectrum and this location falls far short of goal.
I’ve worked in the industry previously and understand the varying challenges involved in managing these facilities so I am empathetic to a degree. I don’t expect unreasonable levels of cleanliness and, frankly, prefer a little dust and rust akin to the more hardcore gyms in the world but when cardio equipment appears to have layers of aged, dried, caked on sweat and strength equipment padding is missing gargantuan chunks of foam or vinyl seat/contact covers cracked and dry rotted rendering the equipment unusable or downright uncomfortable (sometimes painful) to use, a level of mental gymnastics is required on the daily to achieve the same degree of training otherwise intended in line with that day’s training plan. Further to this, much of the equipment severely lacks in lubrication, certain hardware like nuts and bolts and springs are dangerously loose if not missing altogether, and weight stack stickers and even some stack pins are missing, adding to the list of unusable equipment. Additionally, the one and only basketball backboard has been shattered/broken for months now. The men’s locker room smells profusely of rancid urine (the stalls etc are unsanitary beyond words) to the extent adjacent areas outside of the locker room entrance are repulsive almost as much as the locker room itself, this being from a lack of routine, but more importantly, effective cleaning.
It is not a lost cause nor am I intent on suggesting anyone find another gym to train because there really is great potential here. That said, I struggle with the thought of extending my membership as I can’t justify having spent the money in the first place. The cost simply doesn’t match the value as things...
Read moreBottom line is: don't rely on them to actually provide you any service. You pay dues on the off chance that they decide to provide a service, and they don't have a good track record of actually providing it. It's probably fine if you just want to do generic dumbbell lifts, but I wouldn't count on them for anything else such as specific training equipment, hygienic locker rooms or working drinking fountains.
I renewed an annual contract at this gym in May. I first discovered that the basketball backboard had been shattered on June 28th. It was amusing at first and I gave them grace for about a month before expressing concern only to be told that that the board is "on back order." I called in August after several stops in to see that it wasn't fixed and I was told that it was on back order but would be fixed "soon." Today, I was informed that the new plan is to salvage a backboard from the McKinney gym once it is under renovation. Bear in mind, you can buy a regulation backboard on Amazon for $200 with next day delivery. The top of the market is like $500 and installation is just a few bolts. The mounts are still intact. I'm not expecting the world and I'm sympathetic to administrative delays, but have a hard time accepting that they don't have some sort of petty cash account to cover a $500 expense.
When I protested the absurdity of this situation, the response I got was basically 'play a different sport/do something else.' If all of the treadmills were broken, would you tell a distance runner to try cycling? But that serves as a pretext for refusing any relief in the form of a bill credit or other remedy.
I'm a multi-sport athlete. I have other facilities available for generic exercise. The main reason I maintain this membership is to have an indoor basketball court in walking distance.
I was willing to let the rest of my concerns go. The questionable sanitation, the reduced hours of operation, inoperable drinking fountains, one of the two rowing machines (the only other exercise equipment I use) being broken for about 6 months. But it's a pattern of behavior.
The revenue loss of me not renewing my membership next year will probably have covered most of the cost of fixing the backboard, and I won't be the only one...
